Rifle Scopes Current Vortex AMG wait time?

There is a thread on this sight which talks about their current production output. I want to say it was 18 scopes a week?
No that is wrong. Some uniformed poster post 6 a week which is also wrong. They are around 36 per week and soon to be going up around 48 per week with more towards the end of the year. The AMG scopes are out there and being shipped. Some vendors have them in stock but you have to search the internet some.
I placed my order with Optics Planet on May 5, 2016. Apparently I am high on their list for the MOA version, and they anticipate they will receive stock in July. Perhaps lead times have improved, but I'm looking at over 14 months from order to delivery. I see them often enough here in the PX for highly competitive prices.
If it were me, and it's exactly what I did, I would keep my eyes peeled for a used one or a dealer with one in stock. I was able to grab one from camera land, for a great price btw, back in December. I wasn't necessarily committed to finding one, but did want one and knowing the lack availability I jumped on it. If you're willing to look around and call I would believe you'll get one quicker than through a backorder. That's just my opinion but it's worked a number of times with harder to get items.
Ordered mine just about a year ago direct from vortex and it arrives friday. It's an easy wait when you work so much you can't shoot

I was on a preorder just over a year ago and mine arrives TODAY! Mine was an easy wait because all my rifles have scopes and just wanted to see what this scope was about.

Yes because you just jumped in line behind all the vendors waiting on orders. If you put some time in and search around a little you can find them in stock at vendors. It just takes a little work.
Vendors don't offer same Mil discount as Vortex, all good I understand how the world works.
Glad you understand how it works. Some vendors though will discount of their street price and it comes close to the Vortex price. You usually have to call though.
I ordered one last August under the Vortex LEO/Vet program and was told it would be 12 months. When I checked a couple of weeks ago I was told I am number 3 on the list so hopefully only another month or two....
I just bought one yesterday, MRAD, on Gunbroker for $2500. Not sure if I'm going to keep it yet, but figured I'd have no trouble reselling at that price if it isn't what I'm looking for.
Just curious what is so good about the AMG? is it as good or better than the razor hd gen 2? is it compared to?
Yes, it is as good as the Razor HD Gen2 with an awesome glass, it's small with 30mm tube and 50mm objective lens with a lot less weight (28.8 Oz) a little bit less magnification (6-24x), almost the same turrets but smaller w/o second rev indicator, same infinite zero, same locking mechanism and same Zero stop. Different but similar reticle (EBR-7) Same price but as of today very difficult to get. Made in USA but the reticle (made in Germany)

I think it really depends on your purpose too. I was initially looking at the gen 2 razor but this is going on a rifle I plan to carry around during hunting season. With it being smaller/lighter with many of the same features and glass it becomes one of the most attractive options available for that purpose.
Just ordered one and of course on the back order. How long I should expect? Or better just cancel it and snatch one from trade section?

Neal at camera land just hooked me up with an AMG MRAD and I wanted to say thanks. I had one back ordered elsewhere and they had no idea how long it would be and I was hoping to have one in time to shoot the snipers hide cup in June with and now I will thanks to camera land.

Cause I have a six-month-old kid at home and my wife will have my ass if she finds out what this thing cost. Nothing to do with the scope, it was pretty incredible in the 5 minutes I took it out and looked through it. I'll stick to waiting for the PST Gen II like a good boy.
Just saw the charge from vortex hit my card, so my AMG should be shipping next week. So about 8 months from when I ordered. (not 12 mo that was quoted.)
I'm excited because my new BHW 22"light profile .260 barrel finally showed up last week so I can upgrade my Franken-SASS LR308. It will be losing some serious weight between replacing the 24" Lilja heavy barrel, Gen 1 Razor and scraping the PRS stock for a magpul ACS model or maybe a mission first BMS or Luth-AR stock.
I'm excited because my new BHW 22"light profile .260 barrel finally showed up last week so I can upgrade my Franken-SASS LR308. It will be losing some serious weight between replacing the 24" Lilja heavy barrel, Gen 1 Razor and scraping the PRS stock for a magpul ACS model or maybe a mission first BMS or Luth-AR stock.

I (pre)ordered a Razor HD AMG MRAD from Brownells back on Black Friday 2016. It arrived last week.
I had sent in my order form to Vortex on the Mil/Leo program on January 23rd 2017, I received the scope on May 23rd. Exactly 4 months wait. I was told when I ordered it would be a year. I got the MRAD version and I am very pleased with it.
I finally got tired of getting jerked around by Optics Planet. I ordered December 30th and have been told on the several times I've called to check - 1st week in July. Called yesterday and same thing but after a few more questions it was "that is our next shipment, we get 4 a month and you are #33 on the list". What? I guess whenever I called they though I only wanted to know about their deliveries and not mine. Enough is enough.

I got my AMG from Neil at Cameraland today. It took 5 weeks from order to receive. I'll cancel my 7 month old order at Optics Planet tomorrow. It was still going to be 6 more moths through them at last check if even that could have been believed. Thank you Neil.

I like mine too. It is not the the scope that has best optical clarity or "top of top" halo, but after couple matches in the past few months, I'm getting used to it really well and more time I spent with it, the more I realized what a great package it is. This is the first scope that I got all my check boxes covered, and yes it is a long list...
1. Great optical performance
2. Does not weigh like a pig and make my rifle top heavy
3. Low profile locking turrets
4. Abundant adjustment
5. Great utility reticle
6. Daytime visible illum
7. Tracks dead on
8. Worry free warranty
9. Locking eye piece
10. Great feel of clicks
11. Good at CA control even not 100%
12. Not too expensive and have good LE/Military offering
My only cons: The ZeroStop setting is a bit hairy, and not 34mm tube made it less sexy - we are guys and we like our stuff has impactful girth...

Glad you like the scope. It is great to hear that it covers everything you wanted. I am curious as to what you find hairy about the zero stop? Maybe we can help or even make changes.

Scott - Thanks for reading our users' feedbacks, I think it's a critical success reason of Vortex.
To the ZeroStop, there are couple things I'm having some challenges around setting it up. There is no issue in using it once setup. And I seriously believe, to make it better may means compromise on other matters for the turret, or increased cost, which is not worth it at all, to my thinking.
1. I zeroed my rifle and scope first, then look at how much offset I got on the turret from zero. Then when I opened the cap, I noticed my 0 is not exactly aligned to the line mark, so I was not sure if I should try to match the very small offset as I got my scope POI and AOI exact on one click...
2. Then I start talking to myself about which way I should turn the internal shaft.
3. After I zeroed it, I had to fire couple shots to validate and I indeed did not set it right, so have to re-adjust.
I may just get too used to the old style zero stop: Zero the rifle, loose couple screws then turn the knob to get on the zero.
I would think, the simplest way to improve, is to have a more detailed step-by-step to tell people about how to zero AMG in the manual. Pay attention to details like which direction it should be turned, and more context like leave the cap open and shoot the rifle, adjust until zero is on the zero. That would have saved me lots of time and mind power....
But again, it's an one off issue so I would not consider it a deal breaker or urgent matter to address.
My buddy had trouble figuring out which direction to turn the zero stop, too. The AMG turrets are quite a bit smaller than the Gen 2 Razor turrets from which they hail; Razor turrets had direction of up printed on the zerostop, while the AMG does not likely due to space. In the end, the zero stop turns in the same direction as the turret for adjustment: counter clockwise for up/right. Manual goes through zeroing procedure and I didn't find it difficult, but I'm familiar with the turret design from my Gen 2 Razor. I prefer this design by far over traditional screw-type zerostops (i.e. Nightforce).
As an interesting data point, my internal 0 on the AMG's elevation turret was not aligned either. Probably about .7 mil off-center and I don't really think it's particularly important since most people are adjusting this the first time the scope goes out to the range.

I have two AMGs and I didn't find any difficulty at setting the zero stop on them, its very simple, lock your turret with the external zero at zero (at this point you don't know and doesn't matter where is your internal zero pointed at), open the cap, loose the set screws, then you will see where your internal zero is but again it doesn't matter, 99.9% of the time won't be aligned because every scope is pre set at the factory. Start shooting and move the internal wheel ccw for up or cw for down until you get your zero, tight back the set screws, put back the cap, that's it.

Sounds like you didn't zero the scope correctly. You lock the knobs with them on 0 and then take off the caps and loosen the allens. Then you use the center adjustment under the cap, which has no clicks, to set your zero and then you lock the allens and replace the cap. The lines on the inside do not have to be lined up with the white reference mark and that is the best part of the system as you get a perfect zero and you aren't a little high oor low or right or left.
Also the inner dial doesn't have a this is up arrow but it turns the same as the knob itself.

Let me tell another story happened couple days ago. One guy at range was zeroing his Razor g2. He is a rookie and followed the book, but he backed out the screws a bit too far. After he fired a dozen shots to get on zero, he found the screws are gone under recoil! Whole range tried to find those, with things like magnet, without success. He was about to miss a training session out of state until Someone offered his backup scope.
Not saying the system is bad. But I definitely consider the process needs more guidance to improve first time user experience. YouTube video is great, but not everyone has access to that from anywhere, I would like to see the manual get improved on this topic but it's just my opinion.

FYI, Brownells has had the MOA version in stock for about a month or so. I think they just ran our of the MRAD, but it was also in stock for about a month:

That is great feedback. Sometimes it is hard for us to look at things from a perspective of someone like the guy at the range you mentioned. I looked at the manual and you are correct. All we say is "loosen" the set screws. We do not specify how much to loosen/back them out. So I can see that happening(backing out under multiple recoil impulses).

For reference, we will recommend backing the set screws out one turn.
