you could get a Savage varmint single shot or the competition single shot action for like $550 from NSS and then just order a CBI prefit barrel and tools from him. You'll have at, maybe less, than $1000 in all of it...and you'll have a MUCH more accurate barreled action, for less money than going the remington route... I really regret not going savage form the get go on my last gun, but it does ok.
why i suggest the savage route:
1. action has floating bolt face and is a solid bottom action with a smaller ejection port....sucker is pretty stiff
2. the CBI match pre-fits have proven to be very accurate barrels for a great price. You prob wouldn't win a benchrest match with them..but they win quite a few tacticool and steel matches.
3. the action, for the price, comes with a trigger, trigger guard, action screws, and the barrel nut already...the trigger can tune down to like 6oz...
4. you get the tools when you get the barrel and action....so whenever you decide you want to go to a different caliber...you're good to go.
5. with the barrel nut, you can switch barrels in minutes.
6. floating bolt faces can be swapped out so you aren't limited to JUST your boltface... you can do a 222/223 bolt face...then swap out to a br/creedmore/etc bolt face
there's plenty of stocks out there...joel russo, shehane, mcmillian, manners....
