custom ear plugs

Re: custom ear plugs

a hearing aid store.about 100$ tops. you can also have them make a set to work with a bluetooth. tell them you also want your molds back so at anytime you can have another set made. you can also have them colored(red, orange, blue ,etc)and use the colors to distinguish left/right. you will not regret getting them.some will come to your location if enough people(dept, range, club)

Re: custom ear plugs

I just had some made and they are fantastic. mine were $75 dollars because I had them install a mechanical filter that blocks sound of 85 decibels. I asked the guy where I could go to read about all the different types that he can do and he sent me to EAR Inc I linked the ones I bought. they work well if the person talking is near you but if they are 10-15 yards away you can't hear much.

Re: custom ear plugs

i have both EAR brand and ones done from hearing aid place.the hearing aid ones are definetly the better of the two. as far as BR's comment about the cold you leave them in your pocket a minute or so and they are gtg.(must not get too cold in his AO of texas)

Re: custom ear plugs

I had a pair made up at the local gun show...

I've still not made up my mind yet. They're easier to insert than traditional squishy foam plugs, but somewhat more difficult than the baffled semi-rigid rubber earplugs. On the other hand, they tend to stay in better than any traditional conically-shaped plug.

Who knows what the noise reduction levels are, but I've found them to make it noticeably more difficult to carry on spoken conversation than traditional plugs (good or bad, depending on who you're around I suppose). On the other hand, I had pronounced ringing from my strong-side ear when shooting my .308 RFB; the vibration transmitted right through the receiver into my ear.

Honestly, finding good hearing protection seems like a never-ending quest. I've tried and trashed so many pairs of earplugs, earmuffs, electronic ears, etc...and I've never found anything that satisfied me perfectly. Muffs suck for rifle shooting, but if built well and worn properly they seem to provide the best protection. Earplug fit seems to me to be a matter of luck whether a particular brand works for you or not...Wal-Mart used to carry a cheap Peltor or Winchester-brand corded earplug set for $2 that worked beautifully, and then I lost my last pair and Wally-World stopped carrying them. I picked up a really nice free pair at SWAT Round-Up from a company that was handing them out..and then promptly lost the plastic baggie with the product name on it, never to learn again who they are.
