I have a 1911 commander operator and I'm looking to have a holster made for it since there is pretty much nothing out there cut for the gun the way I'de like. I contacted Mitch Rosen and its looking like im going to go that route, but didn't know if anyone else knew anyone.

thanks

Re: custom leather holster makers?

I have a pro TL for my P239 from hbe leatherworks. I've been carrying it everyday for 2 years and its perfect for me. Have you checked out Alessi, Milt Sparks, Five shot leather, or Del Fatti? If you haven't looked, they might have what you want. Mitch Rosen is excellent. I had one of his belts and it was very nice.

Re: custom leather holster makers?

Rafter S did well for me. Took a bit though.

High noon seems to have a good following...

Tough to run from Alessi, Sparks, or Rosen though.

Andrews leather ??

Re: custom leather holster makers?

Need to get your self a Milt Sparks VMII. I got one in after my wait time, and thought that my carry rig was working fine so why not sell it. After a bit I decided to try it out, and I ended up selling my other rig.

Best IWB holster I have tried.

Re: custom leather holster makers?

Mitch makes good stuff. I have a Dillon Precision holster that he made for a G19 and it is a very nice holster. Wrote an article for Dillon about it. I believe it appeared in the Dec. 09 issue of The Blue Press. The holster was Dillon's Premier DL. Might see if he can make you one of that pattern for your gun. I really like that holster.

Re: custom leather holster makers?

I personally carry holsters from both of the following: Some of my off-duty leather is from High Noon:

I carry these for my plain-clothes duty carry and love them. The specific model I carry is the Texas Strongside.

You'll probably wait a bit longer for a High Noon unless it's one of their in-stock models.

I've tried the hi-tech plastic ones, but I just really love the look, flexibility, feel and fit of a leather holsters. Best of luck!

Re: custom leather holster makers?

Give Don a call at El Paso Saddlery. They do excellent custom work and are very reasonable on pricing . I have 2 of their rigs and getting ready to order another. Each of their rigs are made one at a time. Highly recommendable people to deal with.

I agree 100% with this. The VM2 is the most comfortable holster I have ever owned. However, if you order from Milt Sparks prepare to wait 8-10 months. I had to wait about 7 for mine a few years ago, but I think it is even longer now.

FWIW, I posted without even looking at previous posts and saw the OP came to a decision.

Re: custom leather holster makers?

Kramerleater.com. I have a Kramer horsehide holster for my custom operator, he makes good holsters. Cowhide horsehide and sheepskin, and I even think he uses shark skin too.

Re: custom leather holster makers?

I have Kramer and Sparks holsters for my 1911's. The most comfortable is the Sparks. I've got the Axiom and also the VM2. The VM2 is a very comfortable IWB option, and the Axiom supports the gun amazingly too.
