I am trying to find a custom turret maker that I remember seeing awhile ago. I thought I saw a link on here but I'm not sure. Basically they made turrets engraved with adjustments based off the balistic info that you send them. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Re: Custom turrets?

Are you talking about the custom turrets you can get from US Optics after you dope your scope and figure out what you need for your specific load?

As 427 said, gimmicks are there for the taking, but a box of rounds will serve much better. We COULD get a few good NCO's to hold your hand and show you around though

Re: Custom turrets?

Before everyone starts to hammer this idea too much I do think there's a place for this. My data really doesn't change until I get passed 400 yards so if you're setting up a hunting rifle for those ranges with a specific load then I think it makes sense as you don't need a Kestrel wind meter, and Density Altitude cards for those shots.

I do use DA for firing solutions and do not use custom turrets though because elevation, temperature, and different lots of ammo/powder can change my impact enough for match success to be affected.

Re: Custom turrets?

I looked at the turrent idea about 2 years ago. When ordering you will need to give them you load data, alt., temp,. I decided not to do this because things will change with loads, different conditions. I thought I would be better off with a solid dope than a turrent that could be close.
Good theroy but not practical.

Re: Custom turrets?

I'm sure the OP is thinking of Kenton Industries. I have used their products in the past on other people's rifles and they work "okay" as long as you know the limitations.

If you give them specs on x-round, at y-velocity, with z-zero, and all the other "variables" that they require, that is exactly what you get...a turret build with EXACTLY those variables. The problem is that with any "variables"...THEY F-ING VARY!! What you give them today to build you a custom BDC turret WILL be different every time you are at the range or in the field and every slight change in those variables will alter the trajectory of your bullet and the dope needed to accurately put shots on target. Some variations may be slight and you may still be able to put rounds on target, while others may be off by a mile (might as well be a mile...a miss is a miss).

Take 427's advice...more ammo and more range time.

Why do people think that they need these things? They are not better than Mill or MOA turrets, in fact they are not as good IMHO

Re: Custom turrets?

Thanks for the advice, it seemed like a good idea to be able to make adjustments more quickly. But I see what you are saying that even if your ballistic info remains the same then the enviromental variables alone would negate any advantage.
