Gunsmithing Cut away view of chamber

Just recently retired a 6.5x47 Lapua barrel. Went from 1/2 MOA to 1+ MOA. Since this was my only 2 barrel to go south on me, I decided to cut it open for a cut away sample. Barrel had almost 4K rounds. Seems like a lot of copper on the lands although I did scrub the heck out of it the last couple hundred rounds. Don't have a bore scope so this view is new to me.
Anyway I though some of you might enjoy the pics.

What kind of loads were you pushing thru it? Velocity?

Just curiosity more than anything, Love the x47, I have no regrets going 260 but I don't need the little extra velocity of the 260 as I only have access to 600yds.

I was running 123 Lapuas at 2900 fps. My load was 37.2gr/ R15. Great thing about this caliber is the brass life. Getting 30+ reloads

Pinzmann,

First, I hope you didn't throw that barrel away...or worse, really use it for a tomato stake. I could use what's left for a TC barrel.

In any case, what was the round count about when you decided to pull it? Slipping to MOA accuracy being an indicator it's gonna go further South on you when you most need it, I can see why you did, when you did.

Overall, what was your opinion of the 6.5x47? I know I was very impressed shooting against a 6.5 Creed. I've seen .260's and even .260 AI's shoot great. I'm always wondering where a good dividing line is with the 6.5's. FWIW, I shot a lot of 6.5x55 and loved it. But, I will tell you just like any other Mauser case, you don't load them hot. The key to them is a long barrel and slow powder.

Pretty typical.
Increased freebore, lack of defined land beginnings and firecracking all contribute to the diminished accuracy.

Killshot, my freebore went up .090 since I first chambered that barrel.

Sandwarrior, I have shot all 3 of the 6.5's and find the Lapua round the most accurate, easiest to develop a load, longest brass life, probably because of the Lapua brass, and most bang for the buck. Still shooting a 260 though. Had a 6.5 CM but pulled the barrel to set up a P-dog rifle. It became a 6x47 Lapua sending 70 grainers at 3700fps. Now that the season is over for me, I may put the CM barrel back on. I like that one because its a #5 and is easy on these old bones.

so that barrel had a life of slightly under 3 seconds. My 300 win mag will have a life under half of that.

I like seeing those cutaways of "shot" barrels. I did a 6.5x55 a couple years ago and it looks just like that.

I had to move the bullet up about .090. Had started with a OAL of 2.690 and was up to 2.780. Although I went with 2.750 because I had the bullet pretty far up there and had an unconfortable amount of bearing surface.
