We will have to see. Lots of deniable OOTW going on with merchant ships lately like the cable cuts by anchors and the Chicom trawler stuff. Would be easy for a merchant ship at rest to fire up the engines, cut the anchor chain, and charge a warship or large tanker.

Yeah......No.

Any vessel big enough to cause a hazard would need at least 40 minutes, if not more than an hour to start up from cold. And, no, there is no way to cut the anchor chain on a normal ship. You can slip the whole chain into the drink, but all 20,000 feet of chain running out the hawse pipe makes a lot of noise and dust. Not something that can be done stealthily.
 
HTF does anything, let alone a ship that big, get anywhere near a carrier? :unsure:

Aren't they pretty much surrounded by destroyers, frigates, subs...?
i guess if you want to take out a carrier, all you need is a big ship full of explosives and they will let you get right next to the carrier.

Who needs electronics and satellites, look out the fucking window. An aircraft carrier is the size of a city block. You can't see that coming at you get off the water. Makes one wonder about the situational awareness of the rest of fleet escorting the carrier. How clueless are they?

A lot of hypotheticals in that paragraph. But shit happens all the time even in the smallest harbor.

Bottom line is a CVN has little room to maneuver in a harbor or straight, has tremendous momentum, and her nukes cannot go from two knots to full reverse or full ahead in seconds, either. With prep and planning and favorable winds, my scenario is doable. I can think of a few bonus point add-ons too. But such imaginative operational details are far beyond small minds like yours.

I expect when the Taiwan war pops, the Chicoms will sink commercial ships in both Canals such that they are easily raised but cost us 2-4 weeks. Bonus points if they can bookend a few Navy ships.

My best and happiest guess is that the CVN captain had orders to get somewhere as fast as possible and took the risk to ensure mission completion. CVNS are big and tough and a few scratches here and there may be the cost of getting the mission done. Under our new leadership, shit like this is hopefully encouraged. If you get it done, then carry on.

I look at congress and how they act. As soon as our congress gets their pensions pulled from doing what they do, then maybe.
Maybe the captain was didn't have a choice to choose the people he worked with. Maybe the XO and others were officers that Biden forced on him. Maybe, he couldn't get any better people; because to write up DEI hires might have gotten his billet sank. Hell, maybe he was a DEI hire, can't tell these days. Hell, for all we know, they gave the capatain the people from the USS Fitzgerald. Navy probably told him, these people have experience. :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :poop:
