You Can’t Make This Up: U.S. Navy Shoots Down Its Own F/A-18 Super Hornet Fighter Jet in Apparent ‘Friendly Fire’ Incident in Red Sea!

Had the F-18 (2 seater) just left the carrier or did they AB to 25000ft?
If it was friendly fire or not.
With several thousand people on the boats, in harms way, and family back home, a "Morale Story" for now was a good move.

So, if they’re stone age dunces, who is operating all this tech for them?
This tech?

Chatting back and forth on X just trying to “poo poo” the idea that people accept the official story on this.

After four years of safe and effective why believe any story the govt puts out.

One dude with a real left record claims only MANPADs in Libya on 9/11/2012 were Quadaffis outdated SA-7s and there were no MANPADs in Astan because the Taliban and ISIS had no air assets.

This last strikes me.

I can’t believe any base or FOB that was more than short stay didn’t have air defense of even the minimal sort such as a stinger team.

Anyone that was their have some ammo for my stupid internet war?

Dude walking around Kabul Or Bagram with a Stinger would be the nail on his coffin.

Well look at the bright side , at least the missiles and FCS worked and shot down what they were shooting at

Last round of Friendly fires in Red sea Germans were firing all they had and were in proces of abandoning ship after they repeatedly missed U.S. MQ-9 Reaper , both missiles failed due to technical problems during the friendly-fire incident. MQ-9 pilot was reported to be in good condition after being treated with extra pizza and beer for his emotional trauma.

Well it seems same crew shot at second F18 , suddenly Huthi jets are attacking in waves?

The US Navy cruiser USS Gettysburg, which shot down an American F/A-18 fighter jet in a "friendly fire" incident last week, fired a missile at a second aircraft of the same model the same day , Fox News reported, citing sources.
According to him, the second F/A-18 Super Hornet was flying several kilometers behind the downed American fighter. A missile was launched from the USS Gettysburg, which was aimed at the plane. The fighter crew had to make several evasive maneuvers to avoid the missile hitting the plane.

Someone should probably pull the dei hires off the bridge and get them mops before they accidentally start WW3 without another country lifting a finger.

Kinda like every other conflict we've been involved in since WW2..

It appears air operations ceased on Truman that would indicate a serious problem either with equipment (unlikely though possible some kind of DEI AI programming go bad and targets being engaged automatically - as far as public domain information goes i think there is an option of "selfdefense" mode in which human factor is excluded and computer does its own thing to reduce response time as low as possible) or procedures/comms on human end that caused misunderstanding. I would bet on the first option as second f18 was also engaged and i'm betting a repeat of patriot "selfdefense" shotdown of friendly air in Iraq a while back.

So skynet has achieved self awareness....got it.

No but in that scenario it designated blue as red and fired upon it. Patriot battery in iraq did that in automode as in selfdefense as it computed that friendly aircraft was a threat and it launched on it. Do please read upon fire and control systems and how they work to reduce time from detection to action especially in light of new hypersonic missiles and time it takes for a shipboard radar (worst case scenario as idea is to have e2 on station) to detect and for missile to hit...
My speculation is that in modern environment where you can have hundreds of contacts workload is such that most of the tasks are automated and i guess something went wrong. It went wrong for Russians also but difference being some of you believe your own propaganda and have a hard time accepting reality.

I can’t see anything put into “free fire zone” in that environment.

Declared war with a defined active combat zone and international recognition of the conflict perhaps.

I don’t think this is an officially closed airspace and all capable of doing so have their snoopers in there watching what’s happening.

With international relations right now…ROE is going to be real tight.

Unless your intention is to start a war, but if that was the intent you really fucked up.

Paging Mr. Ockham.........there was a moron in charge. This simple theory has the added dividend of allowing us to take cheap shots for the lulz.

I can recall a time both forty years ago where we knew where every plane and helo and ground unit was located in real time with just grease pencils and acetate. And we had SOI and AORS and time tables. And liaisons.

Someone lost situational awareness and someone lost control of their CIC and a bunch of people did not follow their training.
