CZ is buying Colt

Many other American makers have been bought and sold at one time or another. A while back, Colt imported CZ's marked Colt. They were a flop. Then Colt made the All-American 2000, and it flopped too. Then they made the Colt Cowboy (a cheaper version of the Single Action Army). It did not sell. If CZ can bring some life back to Colt, that would be a good thing. I own many Colt snake series guns from the 60's and 70's. Nothing Colt makes today even compares to what they made in the past. Although, you can say that about many mass produced firearms these days.

It's sad and funny at the same time. There is no industry more insulated from foreign competition than the firearms industry.

I'd like to say I had some intelligent insight to share as to why this is the case -- but I just don't. My guess is good old corruption combined with an unpopular, politically, industry.

It's sad, also, that both Remington and Colt sold out and the first thought on my mind was awesome; maybe now the quality will get better. Those companies, both of them, seemed to really try too hard to make cheaper guns than better guns. I'm not an expert on that consumer market -- but most people I know are more interested in a quality firearm than a cheap one.

Hi,

I am not sure I am following that one....can you elaborate in more detail?

Sincerely,
Theis

Can't import Chinese guns. Can't import Russian guns. There's a pretty big list, and what guns can be imported are always 'at-risk.'

So that's one facet of what I was referring to. The other is just parts. Importing completed parts that are to be part of a firearm limits the markets available to manufacture that part.

So, in this regard firearms is one of the most insulated from foreign competition. That isn't to say there isn't any foreign competition in the firearms market, that's obviously far from the case, but the extent of it is substantially less than the majority of other markets.
