Czech Mauser S/N decipher help Please

Hi All,

I just received my Czech 24/47 Mauser with a crest.

Code help:

There is a s/n on the bolt handle, receiver and barrel which match. It is "A 3XXX". There is a 4 digit number on the stock, "00XX" which it crossed out with a 6 digit number above it: 144,XXX. There is what looks to be a long Czech name on the receiver with the number 44 next to it. This is next to where it says 24/47. What does this all mean?

Actually, it's a Yugoslavian M24/47. The factory code "Preduceze 44", I believe, is for what is now the Zastava (not sure if it was called that back then) in Kragujevac. These rifles were built/refurbed from M24 actions from other countries after WW2. Most of them have seen some sort of refurbishment, even since then and it's very common to find mismatched numbers/stocks, as a result. Great shooting rifles with very smooth actions.

Nice Yugo, I can smell the cosmoline from here, lol. As you know already it is a Yugo M24/47. The great thing about them is you can find them with prestine bores, as some were refurbed in the late 40's and put into storage until now. Even though all of the conflicts in the 80's some were untouched. Your rifle will shoot 8mm mauser rounds and is an intermediate action. In that it is shorter than the standard M98 actions of the German, Czech, and other flavors.

There is a guy from from former Yugoslavia that pops in and answers questions, although it has been a while since I checked the site.

On your rifle there are more proof marks on under the wood, barrel serial, and other stuff.

I highly recommend picking up that book, I've got it and an M48a and it's been invaluable.

A Preduzece 44 means probably a Kragujevac manufactuer anywhere from 1948-1960

The M24/47 is built on the M1924 YUGO rifle. The first 50k of M1924's were made by FN and the remainder ere made by the Serbs/Croats.

The M24/52C was built on different variations of the cz24 from different countries, mostly Czech and Romanian.

The M24/52C is a large ring Mauser and the M24/47 is a intermediate ring Mauser.
