Dale Jr, announces this is his last season.

I like the guy and all, but honestly, if his name had been Chuck Earnhardt he'd be working at Walmart. I saw him years ago one night at Myrtle Beach in Late Model, and his sister beat him like a rented mule in that race.
He made millions off of his name.

I actually am not a fan. Don"t dislike him either. He doesn't come across as an asshole like his dad.
i mostly posted cause i was sick and tired of seeing 1J04's avatar on the main page. Damn Oregon/Gonzaga was a game that never happened 3 weeks ago.

I am a fan and plan to stay so. I watched the delayed race Monday from my hospital bed, recovering from Saturday's heart attack. Yeah, that one...

Whatever the chutzpah that drives Junior's popularity, it's working. I kinda like the guy myself.

I think that Junior and Carl are simply the first wave. NASCAR admin has gone Full Hall Monitor, soon to become Full Church Lady, and the older guard is too loyal to the sport to call them on it, so they're voting with their feet. Bravo, I expect the rest will soon follow.

It's a good move for them, and good for the sport. The new crop needs their opportunity, and if they can make it work under the current NASCAR admin leadership, good for them. Only issue I see is whether anyone can make it work under that bunch.

NASCAR fan count/viewership is way down, and rightly so, I think. Change is coming, must come. Eagerly watching to see what form it takes.

I am a NASCAR fan(fading fast though), and I do like JR's attitude and persona. I just don't root for him. I think you will see this more and more. NFL players need to take heed. Your health matters. Work a few years and make your money. Then move on before your a vegetable. JR and Edwards both seem squared away and I doubt they will ever hurt for money. Edwards wife is a neurosurgeon and I am sure she explained the future of his mind if he continued getting concussions. I assume he had many talks with JR also. Who doesn't want to make millions and retire at 40 something. Dream come true.

As far as NASCAR's future I think it is bleak unless someone pulls their head out of their ass. There was an article a few months back about NASCAR and the inner workings. It made it sound like baking a cake in a microwave.

Being a fast driver is as much about how the team owner chooses to play their cards as it is about innate driver competence. The team owner has a resource to sell, advertising space. Which billboard he slaps that stuff onto, and how the money gets spent on gear has to do mostly with fan support. Junior gets it.

Danica gets it too, just not quite so much, so she is a second-group-of-ten-finisher. The girl can drive real good, but she really could make it work better if they'd give her a top ten car. And that's how that part of NASCAR works.

If you look at NASCAR as a business, it can become easier to understand. But I also really do believe it's time to decapitate the admin chicken before they shit the hen house.

Since Jeffie's made his move up into the announcer box, I don't have a driver to root for.

Sad to hear that Junior's leaving, and at the same time I'm happy for him. Got to race, win some stuff, he has a huge fan base, he has lots of options open to him. He does pretty good in the announcer's booth, maybe Mike Joy or Darryl Waltrip are thinking about retiring some day. Honestly I think I'd like to see Larry McReynolds, Kevin Harvick and Junior as the main announcers.
