Dang lube pad!!!!!!!!!!!

Like buttered toast guess which side my lube pad fell on when it hit the floor. I'm investing in some One Shot until I get the home made stuff squared away.

I also have a question.......
I was denting quite a few shoulders while resizing. Overlubing cases possibly? In hindsight I believe this was the case.

Flip it over.

I assume this is the Green RCBS pad. Take a knife and scrape off the crud! If your using the RCBS case lube just 3-4 drops on the pad goes a long way! I have been using the same bottle now for 4 years and still have a shit load left to go.

I did. There were only a few hairs on it. I happened to squeeze the bottle a litte too hard and pop!!!! It just seems like a huge PITA to do it that way. I'm just looking for a better way.

Shoulder dents do come from excess lube. Excess lube usually comes from lube pads. Lube pads are also magnets for stray grit amd grime which gets transferred to the cases and then goes into sizers; not good.

Spray lubes are somewhat costly and get messy from over spray. It tends to result in stuck cases unless you remember to keep the ocntainer well shook and allow the carrier to fully evaporate before use.

Soft wax case lubes like Imperial and Hornady's Unique are cheap in use, a small container will last for a LOT of cases. Apply it thinly with just finger tips when you pick each case up for sizing, a thin coat of wax won't dent shoulders. If fingers aren't gritty to start with, the cases won't be either. If you lube the lower/thick part of the cases properly you'll never get a stuck case. Wax is very easy to use and it's clean; just wipe your fingers and the cases off with a paper towel when you're done.

I haven't used my dirty/greasy ol' lube pad for at least 15 years. Only keep it around for old time's sake and to show people what NOT to use!

One tin of Imperial will last at least 10k reloads, and probably more like 15k, a micro fiber clothe cleans it off just fine.

Amen to the Imperial Wax! Damn good stuff. I use that for FL sizing and use Imperials Dry Neck Lube for neck sizing. Both work well. I can't believe people are still using lube pads these days.

I don't recommend the dry lube you though, Biner626. If you have a habit of dropping stuff that will surely give you mess of graphite and ceramic balls everywhere.

No, you use your fingers to apply just a little bit of wax to the case. Then later you wipe off the excess. I prefer the Lee white paste on my RCBS pad personally. You use the same Lee white paste for the inside of the neck. It will not contaminate your powder, and if you dont over do it you can leave it in place on the inside of the neck. It dries fairly quickly and comes off with a terry cloth kind of like car wax off of your car. I am not not not NOT a fan of spray lube

I cheerfully admit do still have and some times use Imperial wax, it is pretty good stuff. But you need to take an extra moment to make SURE you get it all wiped off, or you begin to collect wax gunk in your chamber, which sucks balls.

Nope, just slide your finger across the wax and spin the case on your finger.

The perceived resizing pressure needed compared to the RCBS goop is considerably less.

I have to say I love that Hornady spray on. I never had a dented case ever and never had a stuck case and on going on about 600 with no issues I once had the RCBS pad but a little messy for my likes. I usually shake the crap out of the can then spray on the lube let it sit there for about 5 minutes and start sizing with no issues.

I've only been reloading for a Cpl years now but I used the rcbs pad at first now as of 3 months ago I use the Lee paste and love it smooth like butter.

I use One Shot with no problems. Spread cases out on a cookie sheet and spray, simple as that. Only downfall with One Shot is it takes a fair amount of tumbling to take the lube off.

I may try Imperial in the future.

my RCBS pad has been sitting since I got a can of Hornady wax. Less mess and easier to apply, just rub a finger on the wax and spin it around a case. done.

I used a lube pad exactly once. Switched to spray lube and never looked back. Bought some Dillon spray lube and discovered it was just lanolin dissolved in alcohol. Been making it myself ever since with stuff from Walgreen's. I use Imperial wax for the tough jobs.

Why would you introduce a petroleum-based water dispersant to a water based lubricant?

If you want to wash the pad, throw it in the sink with some dish soap. All it is is a sponge.

Re: the neck dents, three things. One, take the decapping stem out of your die and clean the inside real well with a patch over an appropriate sized bore brush, following up with cotton swabs in the shoulder area. Two, use a paper clip to punch through the vent hole and make sure it is clear, taking the plug of crap you pushed into the die out with a cotton swab. Three, when rolling your cases, first rub the trail of lube into the pad well with your finger, then hang the neck and shoulder over the edge of the lube pad before rolling with the edge of your hand.

If you are doing alot of cases nothing beats a spray lube. I usually do 300-600 cases in a session. I use One Shot and it works great. I just lubed and sized about 140 pieces of .243 this morning. Took all of about 5 minutes to lube all the cases and the slid in smooth and came out the same.

Here's a quick little video I made for a friend who was getting into reloading. Not super professional but give you the idea of how I do it.

I use non-stick cooking spray on the lube pad. One thing I do is run a couple lubed cases then a dry one. Helps to not get dents on shoulders. This is with 223 brass only.

wash it off in hot, soapy water.....then throw it away and get some Dillon spray lube. or make your own from alcohol and lanolin

I pretty much do it this way, but, I spray one pump of Dillon or Midway lube in the bag first. Then I dump 10-50 rounds of brass in the bag, close the bag, and roll the brass around in it for a few seconds, kneading it with my hands. Then I open the bag and let the alcohol evaporate. When using a new bag, you need more than one pump. But after you've been using the bag for a while, there will be PLENTY of lanolin in the bag. So spraying once will allow the alcohol to reactivate all the lanolin already in the bag.
