I searched 10 pages deep and found nothing.

Anyone got the Hornady manual for starting and max powder loads for (1) Varget (2) 8208 XBR?

Or your own 73 ELD-M loads

This is for a 1:8 WOA bbl in .223 AR15.

Thanx !

The X book lists them on the same page with the 75 Amax, 75 ELDM, and 75 BTHP.
Varget 21.8 to 24.6
8208 20.9 to 22.8
All at 2.250"

I tired them with 8208 at 22.0 to 22.8, but neither any of my loads, or the factory white box loads would do much better than 1 1/4 MOA. I think it's all twist rate as they are fairly long bullets.

THanx ! Hornady specified 1:8 twist. So, I'm hopeful. Testing 24.0 Varget and 23.5 Varget both got that 1.25" size group. So I'm ladder testing....

I'm also loading them at 2.286" COAL. (max mag length....larger mags coming that load to 2.312"

22.5" is a huge jump to my 2.320" chamber.

Almost all my 73gr ELD-M loads are for bolt guns with Wyle chambers, but I did find that 24.2gr of Varget in a LC case w/WSR works exceptionall well in the one standard .223Rem chamber I have.

The few load recipes I tested for AR's were only ever okay, nothing great (less than 0.5MOA)

If you do a search of PaDom's posts you should find some good load data for them. If I recall correctly he had formed two conclusions after testing the 73gr ELD-M's in multiple Rainier and WOA barrels:

1. the 73gr ELD-Ms and WOA barrels are not a great combination, but the Rainier barrels are.
2. you will need to seat the bullets longer than 2.260in around 2.3xxin.

I just loaded up some myself.

Varget 23.2-24.6 with 73 ELD-M
Lapua brass
Cci400

Gonna be a few weeks until I can test them out do to work/family.

Im running an sps tac 1:9 20”. I shot 20 rounds of the match 73 ammo last weekend and got a nice 3/8 group then took it out to 800 yards without any issues.

Really hoping this comes close as my 69smk load just isnt as good in the wind past 600 yards.

I got out to shoot some of these loads, but my god it was so F'n hot and humid I stopped half way through. I did get to chrono the factory 73 grain ammo in my rifle and it's moving @ 2800 fps. Not too shabby, and at that speed it's perfect for what I want. The chrono numbers I ran through put me at 2740fps @ 24.6 grains, so I'm going to move up, possibly to my 69 grain load of 25.4 or maybe a little under. Groups were ok in the 24 grain range, nothing to write home about.

I'll put up more when I have it. Going to be a little while.

We had an entire review testing thread for the 73 ELD-M's in an AR but that was lost in the Scout back to Snipers Hide move.

Apologies for the thread resurrection, but @padom can you re-share the pictures or the data that is no longer visible via imgur?
