What exactly is your question about the Liang deal?

At least as far as I can tell, Liang was 'on patrol' and not 'responding to a call' or otherwise under the impression he needed his gun out other than 'he sensed danger', and he ended up killing some guy because he got scared. He also got charged with manslaughter, which is probably appropriate assuming he didn't intend to go there and kill someone.

The sentencing, IMO, is pretty fucked, but as Sirh said, it's NYPD. Probably some of the scummiest bags out there.

Both cases should not have happened for various reasons. Both outcomes were bullshit. Both places where these events occurred are cesspools of communist nonsense.

On the one hand, you have a jury composed of fucktards letting an asshole with zero regard for any nation's laws walk after murdering someone, possibly for leftard agenda furthering.

No one ever gets my point. Which to me seems pretty obvious. I was interested in having a friendly chat about 2 cases that have a few similarities but had polar opposite verdicts.

One is a LEO who rightfully so was on edge. Who had a negligent discharge that hit a wall that then uncontrollably hit a man in the chest. Who was then sentenced to 15 years.

While on the other end of the country we have an illegal + criminal who steals a firearm and then shoots down a crowed pier negligently or on purpose kills a young woman and is then sentenced to 16 months for having the gun.

The verdicts seem that they should be swapped. The "ricochet" is what reminded me of the NYPD case but is not the defining part of either case.

Not exactly sure why so many are afraid to just talk about stuff without getting so emotionally charged and defensive. But alas seems to be the state of the world these days.

I'm all about discussing the cases. The way I read it however is that he was never sentenced but was allowed to leave without bail while waiting sentencing and that is when it was downgraded. It also appears the downgrade was due to the outcry of people on the internet and in the streets, primarily the Chinese residents because he was himself of Chinese decent. This is what I have a strong issue with, mob rule.

btw, I have little to no problem with the gun drawn "patrol". The thing I have issue with is (1) primary safety (2) I have a very hard time accepting negligent discharges, someone's training has failed not only them but everyone near them. So, I've been most everywhere in Houston, and a lot of other shitty places in shitty cities in shitty states, including the shittiest places that make it into gangsta rap songs, and many times I've 'sensed danger'. I didn't draw. Brandishing is a crime. Being on edge is no excuse to kill someone who didn't have it coming. I was ready to draw, as anyone should be, but I did not draw. I don't believe that an officer, uninvited by any means, and lacking any justification whatsoever for doing so, has any reason at all to proceed with his gun out. I don't believe that just because some officers were killed doing what he was doing is a reason for him to have his gun out.

On the point of officers being killed doing what Liang was doing being a reason for him to be on edge, lots of officers are killed during traffic stops, too.

Looking at the remarks to an article on an SF news site, many in CA agree with the verdict. One suggested the DA intentionally presented a weak case because SF is so invested in being a sanctuary state.

LEO draw and hold their firearms at the ready routinely while entering AND searching a building. The fact that they dont during a traffic stop is irrelevant as they are two different protocols.

The routine is to go to the roof and work your way down to street level using the stairs.

When entering a stairwell the door would not open easily as normal. With it being known that drug dealers routinely barred the doors shut while doing business in the stairwell both officers drew there pistols. With flashlight in one hand, pistol in the other the first officer "put his shoulder" into it. The door opened a lot easier than expected causing the officer to stumble.

At that moment the ND happened. The bullet hit the concrete wall and ricocheted. Going down the stairwell, At the exact same moment a citizen one floor down opened the door to the stairwell and was struck and ultimately died.

It was testified in court that during training a finger on the side of the trigger was "accepted" as the same as finger on the side of the slide. That it was not necessarily taught that way but during training it was allowed and not scolded against when seen by instructors of the NYPD.

So in essence he was following his training.

Next the gun was pointed in the safest direction possible. Imagine for a moment that you are hunting with a buddy. Your gun is pointed down. You stumble as you do for what ever reason the gun goes off. The bullet strikes a rock and then your buddy. Is that reason to spend a good portion of your life behind bars or is it a freak accident?

The fact that a jury in NY could not see this is unsettling to me.

In SF we have a known felon. (Regardless if he was here legally). He steals a firearm. Then with total disregard for anything or anyone he intentionally (defense did not say it was an accident) fired the gun down a crowed pier. Regardless of it was an "aimed" shot or not he is responsible. This would be similar to if you fired your gun in the air in your backyard and hit someone 2 miles away. The fact that a jury could not see this is just as unsettling.

With total understanding of @308pirates need for vengeance. After that is done the family and the federal government should sue the city of SF for 1 billion. Sue for violating the youg womans civil rights by not following federal law and getting illegals out of the city. Ultimatly had he not been in the city she would be alive. Do you have access to the police report or trial transcripts? A lot of the details you present were not in any of the articles I read on the event (including the one you linked), and the officer's own quoted statements seem to conflict with the story you're telling.

I've seen that type of negligent discharge and it is disgraceful. Someone, in a startled state of mind, gets spooked and has an ND. I'm only looking at the news articles about the event, so maybe they're lying and omitting all kinds of pertinent details like - is it really NYPD policy to enter public housing with guns drawn even if they're not there for any particular reason? Did Officer Liang ever say anything that would indicate that he had his weapon drawn because that was the policy? What exactly was Officer Liang doing in that building in the first place?

Sure, when they're called out there for some reason (e.g., domestic violence, robbery in progress, serving a warrant, etc). I've come across nothing that indicates Officer Liang had a reason to be there in the first place.

I'm not knowledgeable about what rights, if any, tenants of government housing waive just by living there (e.g., is public housing public property or private property? Can officers search any part of it without a warrant, or for any reason? Does living in public housing give an officer probable cause all by itself? Is it possible to trespass in public housing?)

I came across these two gems. I can see how both sides of the discussion were formed, and I can only say that New York is one of those places I never want to go. As I said earlier, it's a shitty situation all the way around, but Officer Liang should not have had his gun out. Being in an area that's full of criminal black people (that you don't currently have a reason to suspect of criminal activity) doesn't justify walking around, gun in hand, ready to kill someone. Moving beyond the case and looking at what can be done at this point:

Would the family of the deceased have grounds to sue the county of SF (and potentially the State of CA) based on the fact that the Sheriff made the decision to divert this guy’s 6th deportation by the Feds, and instead transported him back to SF to face charges from 1995 on marijuana matter, only to then kick him free? By Fed law and process - he should not have been there that day to shoot her. Therefore, isn’t the County culpable?
