Just wanting to hear about other users experiences on Dead Pixels and Dead Pixel repair
functions.

Does the internal repair option offered internally on units such as Trijicon and Pulsar actually
work? Does it fix it via software? Does it actually repair it or shut that pixel off or?

I am curious as to other thermal users findings.

I notice sometimes a used thermal will post for sale with owner disclosing that the unit has
"a few dead pixels"..

Does this mean that that said unit is incapable of self repair? Or did they try to fix them and was
unsuccessful?

Can certain brands be sent in for repair under warranty?

Every time I go into my menu board on my own thermals, I wonder about how all this
works or doesn't work.

For those who have had to do the pixel repair, please advise on your findings..

I've had dead pixels in two trijicons (they were IRDs at the time) and send them in and they came back fixed.
I've never had a dead pixel in a pulsar, though I noted the menu item to fix them.
I do not think a few dead pixels prevents use, it is a bit annoying in the house, but I don't even notice them when I'm in the field.

I Have a Pulsar XQ30 Trail and I ended up having a dead pixel. I used the pixel repair function and like magic it was fix and I haven't had an issue since. I have no clue what caused it or how it works but all I know is that it did and I couldn't be happier with the unit.

Dead Pixels can have many causes:
1 - Actual Dead Pixel, it does NOT work. There is a hard failure of the physical structure and/or electrical function. These typically can Not be truely repaired.
2 - Software Failure, it worked, but stopped. These are typically a “glitch” that has occurred in the system. A “reboot” may bring these back around.

An “auto fix” function:
1 - Dead, can’t truely fix this problem, but it can “hide” it. The software will average the working surrounding pixels and turn the Dead pixel(s) that avg color.
2 Glitch, may be able to fix it. If not it may also use an avg.

If you can send it back for free under warranty, go for it. If you are going to have to pay for it, I would live with it, because the chance it will be truely fixed may be limited.
