Dealer Delays

I'm looking for some opinions here.

I ordered an action paid in full in December of 2016. There is no gunsmith work to be done on this order, just box it and ship it. I was told 6-8 weeks for delivery.

It is now the end of April and the shooting season is underway. The dealer I ordered from has had the action in his shop for three weeks and still has/will not shipped it to me. All correspondence with this dealer has been polite and cordial. Again, there is no extra work or services to be done to the action.

I feel this is completely unreasonable. What do you all think?

Thanks

Hope you paid via CC and you can contest. He may or may not be a thief but he's not someone I would want to do business with. I'de call around and find out who has the action you want in stock, then call him and ask for your money back unless he ships today UPS red label. You have provided him with an FFL too ship too, right?

I don't believe him to be a thief at all. That's a pretty far stretch I think.
I have provided FFL's on two occasions.

That's nice of you, but why do you want to keep waiting? If he can not ship today take your money back and order from someone who will. Unless, of course you derive more pleasure from bitching than you would from having your rifle.

Getting the money back would be difficult at this point.

The action is not available anywhere else without waiting again.

Honestly, I'm hoping the dealer reads this and rectifies it before I have to name him.

If they are honest and do either refund or overnight then I don't hold it against them too much any fight and I would never do business with them again. But I value Customer service as much as pricing.

Even if the dealer reads this, how is he going to know that you are talking about him? At least name the action, so if there is a dealer sitting on one waiting for it to hatch, and he reads this he will send it to someone.

Yeah, something does not ring true about this deal.....it would be interesting to know what brand of action this is though and the dealer for that matter. It could be the dealer didn't actually have the action in stock and the wait is due to him getting it in from the manufacturer, it's the only thing that makes sense to me....

Edit: in either case, yes, this is unreasonable.

I don't want to publicly bash this guy unless I have to.

He told me it "might be in the box that came today" on 3/29.

He confirmed possession 4/10.

Bottom line is that's it's paid for and he's not shipping it for one reason or another.

He's getting one more chance to make it right when I get out of work. After that, it's shame time.

Still have not said what action. Have you looked anywhere else to see if other vendors might have it? There are some pretty knowledgeable guys on here that could possibly help you find one sooner than waiting on this deal you are describing.

And why the hell would you buy something else from that vendor when he is holding your action hostage???

I went to Barrett.

If you can't even name tha manufacture, that raises a few flags. What difference does it make if it is a ARC, Defiance, or Suregon? What do you plan to build on this action when you get it?

It's going into a J Allen chassis, bartlein, bix n Andy, and a AMG up top. I have everything but the action. It's a popular one.

The rifle is for PRS type matches. Across the course highpower is a cf right now and I'm losing interest in it for now.

The other item I ordered is unique to the action.

I'm not new to shooting or custom rifles. I understand you have to be patient. Mine has run out in this case.

It could be the same one TC308.

The delays due to the manufacturer I don't like, but certainly can't fault the guy for. Not shipping it right away upon receiving it is my beef.

Dave here's what doesn't sit well with me and m sure many others.

youre painting this story about a dealer saying he HAS
the item in stock and just hasn't gotten around to shipping it for whatever reason.

You paid for said item and he has it in hand. But you can't articulate to us why or what's preventing him (from their word) why it can't be sent out.

Did he miss the PO every working day and Saturday morning since 4/10?
But he somehow was able to send you out something else you ordered LAST WEEK and you got it within 3 days.
Like he purposefully did not place your action in another box to go out to your FFL.

If this is truly the case you're better off doing the public a service and letting us know what the fuck is going on. But if you're going to remain cryptic about shit for fear of reprisal (which is an irrational fear) were going to assume you're leaving out other information.

Theres no rhyme or reason for what's going on right now, especially if you ordered something else.

doesnt even matter what action it is because it's supposedly in hand. It's not like the action manufacturer can do anything other than verify to you that it was or was
not sent out to said dealer.

To update the post:

I spoke to the dealer by phone. The action will ship today or tomorrow. I'll remain skeptical until I get a shipping notification.

While I'm unhappy with the way the transaction ended up, I'm not going trash the dealer at this time. It's a well known and liked dealer around here and I'm not going to go there.

Thank you to those that responded without attacking this new poster.

Well shiiiiiit i was excited to hear about this secret action lol! But if it's popular as OP says then i guess its not one i havent heard of before.
im not sure what there is to gain by not letting us know, im always curious about what other people are building :)
Anyways, hopefully it ships by the end of the week then. If it were me though id still be skeptical about future business with em.

A well respected store local to me took 2 weeks to ship a gun out that i had sold. It took two weeks because the "shipping manager" took a VACATION and nobody told me until i called several times and kept asking. I asked if somebody else could just ship it, they said no. I have no clue why not.

So for two weeks i had to tell the guy who bought my gun what the problem was, despite how ridiculous it sounded. Needless to say i never shop there anymore.

Anyone with two or three working brain cells could take a good guess and probably be correct if I said what action it is.

I'm not about to publicly bash someone's company and livelihood without having a really, really good reason. And I sure as wouldn't do it without giving them the chance to remedy the situation.

Otherwise, I would love to share build specs and pictures.

The first post was dismissive and insulting. The second post continued with a lecture that had nothing to do with my original question.

Then I was told perhaps I needed a thicker skin.

My apologies if my post infered a thicker skin was needed. I simply meant to point out the culture of this particular forum can be a little sandpapery, if that's a word. No insult intended.

I wasn't referring to your post as insulting, Downtown. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding.

I've lurked for quite a while. I have a feeling for the atmosphere here. No unicorns or rainbows expected.

If you've been lurking that long then you should know who actually tries to help around here and who's really not. Ghengis is one of the good guys and the questions he's asking are fair. Yes, you do come across as having thin skin and like many new posters want to control the conversation exactly as you imagined it would go before making that big leap to first post. I'm sure that your situation is real, however exaggerated or not, but your cryptic method of posting is unnecessary and smacks of trying to build up suspense where little is warranted, IMO.

So, make use of that ignore button, so that you don't have to listen to any questions or answer anything that you didn't plan up front.

FWIW, I've never found it necessary to use that option here, as I can ignore someone without the filter.

Cheers.

Oh yeah. Hope you get that action you paid for. It sucks to wait, especially when communications are not there daily.

Yeah... I'm with Ghengis here. Did you just want to let us know that you are going through something - but don't want to tell us anything about it? Strange story.. and if you aren't even sure he's going to ship you an expensive action, but you ordered something else from him - I wouldn't categorize that as intelligent.

You're the only dismissive one here, and you are dismissing the opinions of people who would be capable of giving you some good advice if you listened. But it doesn't sound like you want advice... it sounds like you want a thread full of people ready to pounce once you've decided it's time to release the kraken.

lash hit the nail on the head as well.

In what world is the quoted post not a dismissive, insulting statement?

I'm glad I don't have much invested in this forum.

You should visit other forums if you think that was bad.

I would have disputed the charge 2 months ago but I have a low tolerance for BS from dealers/vendors.

Disputing the charge this far along would likely be fruitless in my case. Otherwise is would be option number one.

Public pressure and loss of future business became plan B.

I really am glad it looks unnecessary.

Waiting is always the hardest part for a customer on a custom build. Typically the lead time on any particular stock is significantly longer than any action (not always), but at least the lead times on actions are typically more accurate. I hope your issue is solved now. Seems to me that there was likely a miscommunication along the way somewhere.

Unfortunately, the issue has not yet been solved.

I can understand delays if this were a custom build, but it's not. It's an order for a stripped action. It's no different than ordering a Remington 700 action from Brownells.

The vendor has acknowledged the issue and has offered to make a concession, but I'm not holding my breath for it to ship as promised.

Dave unless you post something constructive about your situation why do you keep us updated?

Theres a lot of us thst genuinely want to know what your problem is.

Dont know why youre not bothering to talk to your credit card company; they can rectify this

Really? I am new here and see your post as pointless if you're not going to let everyone know who jerked you around. When a business screws person/people over, others should know to avoid it happening to them, period. If he hasnt shipped it yet and offered you a concession, why is he jerking you around?

Wow, what a waste of time reading through this thread. What is the point of it? Bunch of cryptic whining. I'm with Ghengis 100%. Something doesn't ring true here or, at least, is very strange; and it's hard to have sympathy. Complain about a guy out one side of the mouth and then defend him out the other? Buy an additional item from a seller your supposedly already having issues with? WTH??

Good luck.
