I've gone back and forth on my next build. It's going to be a 6.5x47 for paper punching and possible hunting rig. I'm now looking at the Defiance Deviant that is up on their web site, same as the new Templar II from GAP. I like that it is stainless and has the M16 extractor over the Surgeon, but I'm sure they are both superb. Now I'm really thinking the Defiance Deviant, the new Manners Elite Hunter EH1, and a Krieger 5R Remington Varmint Contour barrel. Not going to be a light rifle but should be very manageable. Not sure if the new Manners will be cut for DBM so I need to find that out. Ideas or point me where I've gone wrong before it costs me :)

Re: Debating on build

Go with either T3 or T mini chassis instead of the new hunter stock. The hunter stock is designed for BDL floor metal and sporter barrels.

People always knock the Remmy extractor, but I've never had any issue with it. On the other hand, I have had issues with a M-16 extractor. A 6.5x47 will not be a bitch to extract, so I don't that should be your criteria for going with a Defiance action. I would go with defiance if I was left handed or if I couldn't get a Surgeon action for a year or longer.

There's a lot more to your build you need to consider. What barrel length do you want? Are you going to thread the muzzle? What about finishing? What type of trigger?

Something else you may want to consider is GAP's Rock rifle with Badger M5 bottom metal. Rock solid platform. If anything, it will prompt more to consider the options you want.

Looking at more of a T4 style and thought new stocks would reduce weight but maybe not designed for what I'm looking for. Gonna run a 24" barrel, threaded muzzle, Jewell trigger, and cerakote. Was looking at the Crusader and still waiting on a quote with the new action but I might just go with a build.

I think I'm leaning toward the EH1 with the BDL Chassis, PTG bottom metal, hopfully a Wyatt's extended box if the new chassis accomodates it, and the Rem. varmint contour fluted and finished at 25" or 26" with a threaded cap, throated for the 140 hybrids. Still deciding on the new EH1 or just put up with the extra weight and go T4 90% carbon fiber.
