As the title says I want to know more about how well a defiance deviant specifically in medium would drop straight into my mcmillan a5 that's been inleted for a 700 SA. The action will have a standard tang and I understand I will probably have to carve a bit on the left side for the bolt release. Action hasn't been ordered as of yet.

However I've done this before with a Templar action, and the 700 inlet stock required serious modification. I had to cut the recoil lug forward, and fill the gap with a machined aluminum block. And when it was all said and done, the ejection port was a mile too small on the stock to match up.

Will a deviant tac in med with a 'standard' style tang present the same nightmare to fit?

I've read as many posts on this as I can find, but they all say something different, and I've email defiance about a week ago to no response.

What should I say on the actual order of the actio to ensure everything will be sweet?

yeah the templar requires alot but the deviant will pretty much drop in. Youll need two minor mods to the left side as you stated for the bolt release and youll also need to take out some material for the bolt handle especially if you got the straight bolt handle. If youre actually going to order and wait 7 months just ask for a deviant cut. If you want to save months of waiting then buy a 700 fit on here if you find one you like and have a smith or yourself relieve those areas. The Deviant will drop straight into 700 chassis without modification too.

The ejection port will need to be modified on the McMillan if it is currently only inletted for a factory 700. I measured mine a while back and the Deviant medium's ejection port is about 1/2-3/4" longer then factory 700's.

Yeah I forgot the ejection port. I dropped mine in a manners for a 700 just while I waited for a different chassis and I just ran it with the 700 port and it still ejected fine. I would've opened it up if it was staying in it.

Just received a response from defiance. For future reference for anyone else out there with my same question...

"Our Medium Deviant has the same footprint as the rem 700 short action. We do offer a Defiance port length that is .418” longer than the standard rem 700. The Templar action is like our Rebel, but the Templar has extended thread tenon .253” longer, that is why it did not fit into that stock.

So when you have your agent order your actions, make sure he tells us it is to drop into a stock for a rem 700. The recoil lug would be in the right place and we would make it with the rem port length. You might just have to make a small relief cut for the bolt stop/release."

Hope this helps someone else.
