I have a stupid question. I’m looking into a 300 NM build on a Defiance Deviant Action before my smith retires. To match my SA he built, I’d like to use a AICS AX chassis. I know I’ll needs the CIP length chassis. Will the Defiance, or any R 700 Long Action pattern fort that matter, fit a CIP chassis?

I know this is a seemingly stupid question but I don’t wanna find out the hard way lol.

Thanks in advance.

You can order the defiance long action for a CIP cut for the mag - make sure you specify that on the build sheet.

As far as fitting in the chassis, it should, as long as its patterned for rem 700 LA foot print.

Thanks guys. Norm at Defiance suggested the CIP mag cut in the bottom. The real confusion for me was CIP chassis VS long action chassis. I know the CIP is magazine related, but I didn't know if the footprint of the action was different for CIP chassis. Never ventured into magnum CIP territory and wanted to get it right before I order anything. I know in the case of Surgeon their XL action requires a special chassis, but it sounds like the Defiance should drop into any 700 LA chassis, and the CIP is the cut for the magazine.

My real concern, and stupid question, was if the Remington 700 long action footprint works in a CIP length chassis. As in I didn't know if dimensionally the action for a CIP was longer than a Long Action.

Plus the short, medium, and long action thing threw me on the Defiance site. I'm used to Remington 700 actions so I know a short action fits a short action 700 chassis, etc. This will be my first full custom action and CIP cartridge build. So I'm just trying to learn as much as I can before I get going. Yea, I could of had my smith do it all, but I like to understand and learn about what I'm having built.

Call me crazy buuuuut maybe you could ask Defiance.

Norm suggested the CIP cut in the Long Action with the .750" bolt. When I asked about the CIP AICS AX chassis, he said it should work. Seeing as how it'd be months and months to get a stock worked up from Manners, I figured I'd ask here instead of relying on 'should.'

Birddog, thanks again for your input. The main reason I'm going with the Defiance and not a 700 LA are concerns my smith has about how thin the bolt face is with a R700 LA with a Lapua bolt face. He also had some concerns about the recoil lug. He felt like overall a custom action build around a bigger bolt would be the safest/best route to go.

I just didn't know if a long action would bolt into a CIP chassis, as silly as that sound. I know it's more about the mag cut I the chassis and mag length you gain with CIP, but in the off chance that it was also a larger action, I wanted to make sure.
