Defiance Prefit

I know the Defiance actions can do the Remage thing but are shouldered prefits possible on the Defiance actions or are the Bighorns, ARCs, Curtis Custom actions more consistent?

I have one friend who is a home smith and says that all of his Defiance barrels can go back and forth between his actions but wanted to know if anyone else has knowledge in this area.

Call Defiance and ask them. They’re good people.

I have two Defiance Deviant short actions. There is almost one thousandths difference in the head space between them. The barrel timing is close to identical. I can’t measure the difference.

I tried to order a Magnum bolt for them and Defiance wanted the action to fit the bolt to it. So, Defiance thinks there is a difference between identical actions.

I’ve been able to swap between 2 different deviants and a Templar 2. So 3 actions and all headspace passed go/no gauges.

You'll want to check the bolt dimensions and then the dimension from the bolt face to the action face to make sure they are the same. I have three deviant tactical short actions and they are nearly identical, so swapping shouldered barrels between them is fine. Maybe there were variations early on or something, but they appear to be basically the same now.

That would probably be the main impediment to selling prefits. It's not just knowing that the current actions are all headspacing the same, it's knowing that every action they've ever released all headspaces the same.
