Rest easy man. I think Bama is going to be alright, but I do see this as their end run around game.
If they want to take guns away from dangerous people no politician should ever have one.
It alarms me that many in the LE community are ok with such laws. Can I ask anyone in LE, what purpose these laws serve when all one would have to do is obtain guns illegally? I mean I see these laws as ripe for abuse!
dont let anyone take your rights or your property no matter what you have to do.
how else does a socialist government supposed to take root they can't allow you to have any real means to protect yourself .

I’m still waiting for someone to answer my question. I’m also told that you’d be sent to an evaluation and that if it was found to be BS that you’d get your stuff back. Why do I not believe that? Also, how do I know the one doing the evaluation isn’t a gun hating liberal?? I know up to the courts huh? Well, there again what if the judge is a gun hating liberal as well? Yes, I can somewhat see the merit in these laws but how do you keep it from being abused? I don’t get it. People want to give up more power to an entity that has already proven to abuse its power. Where in the hell does that make any sense?

Stupid unthinking people in LE parrot politically correct doublespeak.
They are truly for "the criminally wrong" to not have guns. And it looks good to appear on camera in support of feel good laws that make the sheep feel secure.
However, LE in AL already has the laws in place to remove guns from criminally wrong people, and legally adjudicated mental people. Been in place a looong time... Federal law is also in place. Been there.
Red flag laws have no place because of the potential for abuse, and spiteful bullshit, "scairt of my shadow" complaints.
LE Administration in todays world is not the same from Grandfathers day. The education system from high school to graduate school that produces Administrators is not our friend.
The older LE have the old values. The younger LE who have said education, been denutted by PC, pussified by PC, and have no conflict resolution experience, grab on to anything that looks like it will empower them. Scared....
The f'd up shootings by pussified scared officers is evidence of this phenomenon. Their leadership fails for many of the same reasons.

There is hope, because there ARE still young people who still hold the values and constitutional principles who serve. We must support THEM.
Those who constantly compare them to the bad ones, alienate potential allies, who both they and we non comparers, need.... in spades.

We need to meet those youth, welcome them, nurture them, and mentor them, not push them away. We need to invest in them.

First off, you are painting with an awful broad brush there. While I am no longer active, I am retired LEO, and am not ok with these laws, nor are any of the guys I worked with that I still talk to. In fact, did we not have a thread here about all the Sheriff's saying they would not enforce these laws? If you are listening to police chiefs ramble, you are listening to politicians who have to suck up to their mayor to keep their jobs. These laws are ripe for abuse, that's why most cops I know are not for them. But keep up with the stereotypes….

I have something to ask about the sheriff's who will not follow the edict. So some sheriffs will not obey the state law, and be willing to take one for the team. While state AG or whoever, says you must comply or we will jail you. Both are in violation of the laws, but the sheriff is not willing to arrest anyone from the state ???? Why is the US constitution not law ? Doesn't the sheriff have the authority to arrest someone for violating the law ?

it is law, it is the supreme law. the sheriffs have more power under common law than any democrat or republican lawyer with any title from scotus on down,,, the gov might be able to take action but not an ag.

Like any of these laws are about "safety" or "saving lives" or "healthcare"

Hence the "red flag" laws. One passionate rant with a few strong words and that may just cost someone his guns. He might even be Finicum'd during the 3AM SWAT raid, if the state feels that he is enough of a troublemaker...
This shit must NOT be allowed to manifest in any form. Otherwise, anyone who wants to enact a full gun confiscation can just use this as a springboard to achieve their goals. An entire community or town can be 'red flagged' because of their voting record, if they want to get froggy enough.

True. State AG's can offer opinions and recommendations on "a passed and signed law", but have no enforcement power.
If enforcement follows their opinion or recommendation, the court that hears the aftermath either approves or rejects the action/opinion/recommendation, then the a/o/r can have/not have the status of "law".
Reverend AJ has often pointed out those opinions and judge decisions make "law" where the written/passed/signed law said otherwise. And those opinions and decisions and the fool that makes them, are the problem.
Your right, too broad a brush. I was speaking directly about the younger gen of LE that I personally know. They have made comments multiple times to me that are quite alarming and quite the opposite of the older gents in LE that I know. In fact, the older guys have gotten out of it because they claim it’s not worth it anymore and they are let’s say much more reserved than the younger ones I know. Not saying all of the younger generation is that way as I know some excellent young men that are on local SWAT teams that I highly respect, but it seems the vast majority of young guys I come across are quite the opposite.
What about the concept of "cover your ass" by the one 'deciding'? Their view could very easily be "well, you're already here being checked out, so there MIGHT be something, and I can't be part of making something worse, so "nothing to be returned, JUST IN CASE"....

The issue is however that using that requires careful and methodical pre-planning a long time in advance and being prepared, setup and a lot of other stuff. Too many are a bit short sighted and would like just have some guns that they can shoot it out with the oppressor team that shows up at their house.... What you are talking about requires a lot more planning preparation and staging, but generally will mean you don't have to worry about shooting it out with the oppressor team.
