I am beginning to assemble the parts for an M40A5 USMC spec build. I just called McMillan and they cannot take my order until I have the exact description of the A4 stock used in the M40A5 rifle. I have seen exact descriptions of the A4 stock for the USMC spec M40A3. Does anyone know the exact ordering description so I can go ahead and order one? (It has the inlet for the PGW forend rail).

Thanks

Re: Description of the McMillan A4 stock for the M40A5

I think they want to know inlet specifics for action, bottom metal and barrel channel. The action is a Remington 700 short action inlet. The bottom metal is a Badger M5 inlet and the barrel is a USMC or light varmint contour (1.20" for 4" then straight taper to .920 at 25"). They can also do the inlet for the PGW front rail. The McMillan M40A5 has Sniper Fill, adjustable saddle cheek, Spacer system LOP. It also has one stud and six flush cups and is finished in OD Green.

*edited to add that the M40A3 and M40A5 are the same stock. The M40A5 has the PGW rail system and Surefire brake along with the Badger M5 bottom metal. The older M40A3 didnt have the rail or brake and used a DD Ross bottom metal.

Call Heather @ McMillan, she normally looks specs up if you need her to.

Re: Description of the McMillan A4 stock for the M40A5

If you want to go 100% spec, the USMC-destined stocks use a specific mold that allows the shell to be intact over the bolt handle recess, which on the non-USMC mold is cut after the fact into the stock, breaking the integrity of the shell in that area. I believe it is called the A4-B mold.

They still make that style a4 it's just for the winchesters now. They changed the tang and butthook per the marine specs. I'm sure if you asked for it they would inlet the Winchester version for you
