Hey whats up guys once again another thread created on my behalf. Do you guys think I should stick with the remington detachable magazine system that I currently have or get something else? I was curious if you guys can recommend a good reliable detachable magazine system for the 700. I am having failure to feeds and it is really starting to piss me off. I do not know if its the whole system or just a crap mag. What do you guys think?

For DBM it's either, in no order:

Manners MCS-DBM Mini chassis
Badger Ordnance M5 DBM
CDI Precision bottom metal
Accuracy International AICS

Common theme: all systems use AICS magazines.

Re: Detachable mags for Model 700's

Honestly it is unclear if the stock magazine system needs to be replaced. I may have to diagnose the problem further. I do know that I am not impressed with the follower in the mag.

Re: Detachable mags for Model 700's

In addition to what has been mentioned, HIDE vendor "Hooper" has one out now, and I believe R&D precision also has a version for AICS mags. I was told that APA also has one now? And then there is vbull, and Surgeon, and at least a couple more I can't think of.

There are literally tons of choices. There are systems that use unique mags: Seekins, HS Precision, Kwik-klip, Wyatts, etc. and then there are all the AICS variants.

Personally, I would choose the AICS versions since they use the most commonly available mags which are also available in several brand flavors, round counts, and caliber choices:
Accuracy International
Accurate Mag
C-Products
Morta
Alpha Mag
and probably a couple of other clones I can't think of off the top of my head.

Hooper uses AICS mags, not one of their own. I went with Hoopers DBM because I like the two different release latches he provides, and the price is right. I prefer using the AICS mag DBM's because they feed perfectly and are easy to get replacements for in 5 or 10 rounds.

Re: Detachable mags for Model 700's

I have three 700's Two have mags - one has an internal box.
The 700 in .308 has never given me a feeding problem. The one 700 in .338 just came home with me three hours ago - So I do not have any experience with the 700 in .338. I will say this.............. Looking at the .338 OME Mag I'm not real confident in it. I think I may relegate it to the shooting bag as it looks and feels a little tinny. Im shopping Badger Ordnance for one a little more beefy. If anyone has any experience replacing the stock trigger housing group I would welcome any advice on a good trigger to replace the one in it now.

Re: Detachable mags for Model 700's

While we are on the subject of detatchable magazines. Does anyone know of anybody that manufactures one for Savage Model 12's? I would like to continue to use the magazine but I want to get a better coal. I read somewhere about the acme detatchable mag kit but I can't get a hold of anyone over at SSS. Has anyone had any experience with these?

Re: Detachable mags for Model 700's

what caliber are you shooting? some rounds don't feed as well as others just because of their shape.

i have the Manners MCS-DBM Mini chassis and love it. it feeds the 6.5x47 flawlessly.

I am shooting .308 right now. I did notice some cartridges loaded better than some but I am still wondering if I was installing the mag wrong or something else.

Re: Detachable mags for Model 700's

Im using and AICS which incorporates a detachable mag system that uses AI mags. Wonderful system.

Anything that utilises AI type mags should do you well.

My intentions are to use Alpha Industries Type 2 .308 mags, as soon as they arrive. They are compatible with most AI mag type systems, but offer more OAL and the mag height is shorter.

Thanks for all the replies guys. What is interesting is that since I changed from the sps sporter stock, and installed my hs precision m24 stock, I am not experiencing any feed problems anymore. Wierd Huh?
