I'm in DFW near Lake Highlands. Just getting into PRS, was curious if there was a group who train together or anything. I've been up to Fossil Pointe a couple times but looking to join up and maybe pick up some pointers to start getting ready for next year's season.

Thanks.

Between fossil point, gravestone, and white oak youre within 3 hrs of some pretty good matches. White oak does an open range day if you’re lucky enough to get fridays off. You will learn far more shooting a match with whatever equipment you have and even borrowing gear to shoot, than by just watching. Newer shooters will generally be squaded with experienced guys to help out anyway. The season is over so nobody is gonna give a shit about helping or coaching on the clock. Now is the perfect time.

Also, fossil point requires a qualifier to be shot before competing so make sure you shoot them an email before registering for a match. I think they are done during the week but weekends could be scheduled in advance. Just a heads up.

I don't think they require this for PRS matches. I think they figure there are enough eyes on a new shooter to prevent catastrophy. I never shot a qualifier. I might be wrong though, things might have changed.

they must have. I inquired before registering for this weekends match and that was the response I received from them. Kind of a bummer honestly.. I was looking forward to going.

I never did that. I started shooting there the beginning of this year though. I would just ask if they can give you an improvised version morning of. I’d also say you’re meeting us, im on squad 5

I think I will. Or see if they’ll accept a video of me doing the qual at my home range. I understand the safety aspect of it but dang.. seems like they’re bottlenecking themselves on entry fees lol

Yup. 5-6 with only one being a points match though.

But being the OP is just getting into PRS himself, I would assume that the same would apply. Could be wrong though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You should be good to go then. Maybe let them know you have shot matches before just not there? I just registered and showed up my first one at FP and nobody asked me anything.
I tried. No dice. Either way, it’s not a huge deal. Thought it might be useful information but if they don’t stick to their “policy” i guess it’s on me for trying to follow it. Next time, ignorance is bliss 🤣

Like everyone said above. Lots of good matches. North East Texas Tactical does a belly flop match. I like this match because you don’t have to worry about position and can focus on ballistics and hitting the smallest targets you can. I’m in East Dallas. Hit me up if you wanna squad together.
Completely forgot about the bellyflop. It’s a fun time with hardly any pressure.

I want to join but it’s 1.5 hours from me. NORTH East Texas Tactical is 30 min so that’s where I am a year round member.
Same for me just short of 2 hrs to Lipan. I’m at the edge of Rowlett. Gravestone is worth the drive. I’m doing the Rimfire PRS match there next weekend.

I shot two matches at Fossil Point this year, a couple months apart. I did have to do the qualifier beforehand. It was a great time.

Happy to answer any questions you have about Gravestone... Awesome place! There is usually a good group of guys shooting centerfire on Fridays and Saturdays every week. Centerfire PRS matches every 3rd Saturday. Rimfire PRS matches every 2nd Saturday. Having shot at every facility within a 5-6 hour drive Gravestone offers double what most of these others offer as far as facility and pure shooting challenges. Hope to see you out there!

I called David at FP and respectfully gave him my background and he met me at FP and qualified me. A number of out of state PRS and professional shooters have done the same. Rhett runs the PRS matches and is former Army and a great instructor. He also does the qualifications.

Jake needs no introduction and is a great guy who has put together a hell of a facility at Lipan. It’s 90 minutes.

FP and Gravestone are adult ranges where we are treated like adults and all the props are open for us to use. It’s well worth it to filter the shooters who want to shoot there to make sure we dont have rounds escaping the facilities.

Up north is Battle Springs Ranch with matches run by Tyler Black, also former Army. They have matches and open range days. It’s 90 minutes to there.

East is White Oak Creek. Three hours plus.

South is TX Precision in Navasota and ATX out by Burnet. Three hours plus.

Any shooters on here gonna be at the PRS match at FP next weekend ( the 24th ) ? Gonna be my first match and I talked with Rhett a lil on what to expect. Kinda just going in blind and looking to have fun and learn.

I’m in Lakewood in Dallas and toying with getting into the PRS game.

My experience is limited to military rifle, pistol, LMG, and sniper matches and mil ranges. Spent some time at Tiger Valley and ETTS a decade ago but pleased to hear there are other ranges in the DFW area.

Where can a guy go to get dope on steel out to 1k without have to shell out $800 a year for a membership, that might only get used once a month?

We are a membership range at Gravestone but once you do one time membership fee of $150, you can then purchase a day pass for $55 or a monthly for $95/mo. Please let me know if you would like any other information.

$40 at Fossil Pointe. But only goes to 800.

Who’s shooting Gravestone on the 18th? Any room in your squad before I pick one? First PRS match for me. I’ve shot a shit ton of USPSA and other run and gun shit but never this so squadding with someone to give me pointers would be a win lol.

Honestly, you will prolly be in good hands either way. Bunch of great dudes out there and with it being your first match, they will strongly advocate for tips and coaching. I’m still waiting for some scheduling conflicts to work out so may or may not be there.

I just took a class there yesterday with Morgun King. It’s an awesome facility. I’m sure whoever you squad with there will be fine like recommended above.

I'll be there, it will only be my 2nd match but if its anything like Fossil Pointe (my first match back in November) then you'll be in good hands no matter what. Everybody is super cool. Just let the RO and your squad members know its your first time and they'll lend a hand with anything you'll need.

I work on the west side of Dallas but I live near the Red River. Right now, I don't have the time and set to do PRS but I would like to live vicariously through your experiences. So, it would be cool, either in this thread or in another to document your experiences. Things learned, win or loss, who cares, we learn something and that is always worth something.
