Decided to sonic clean my bolt..
Separated the bolt body from the firing pin assembly
Put bolt and firing pin assembly in the sonic cleaner and set for 45 min at 100 degrees
Came back in 40 min and temp was 165 dgrees

The gun is a 1956 model Remington 722
Bolt body was a chrome looking finish as the all are, now is pewter grey
Bolt handle is now antique copper looking
Bolt shroud is pewter grey

Was concerned that solder might turn loose on handle but I could not break it off with my hands.
My real concern is that I might have changed the temper of the bolt lugs.....

Can someone with more metallurgy knowledge than I have or some of you riflesmiths weigh in on this.

Thank you

It did come out super dry. Oiled them up good.

Max, the cleaner is hornady one shot “cartridge case formula”.

Lesson learned on my part

Yea, I learned the same lesson with a carburetor and RCBS brass cleaner. The aluminum was fine but all the steel parts turned to a pewter color.

I tried a Ballistol water mix they recommend. No weird colors but did not clean either. I know its blasphemy but I find Ballistol just about useless on firearms.......

Thanks for everyone who responded. Long as bolt hardness was not affected then all will be good.
Not worried about the color so much.

Thanks everyone
