Range Report Did this bullet come apart in the air?

Re: Did this bullet come apart in the air?

I have a melonited, Benchmark barrel in 243 AI, I push sierra 95 gr at 3200 and it shoots under 1/2 MOA at 600 yds. I haven't lost a bullet yet in over 700 rds, it took a while to find the right load though as fouling was not being removed properly, which is my fault not the barrel.
I was told by much more knowledgeable shooters that certain powder like Varget, H4831 SC etc leave a ring of carbon in the barrel up to 12 inches that is very hard and squeezes the bullets a bit, that results in loss of accuracy.
hope this helps.

What I found was the brake was overtightened as it was being timed and twisted the threaded portion of barrel. We cut the barrel and crowned it went back to normal just a bit shorter now. The Melonite was tough on the inserts.</div></div>

Benchmark installed the brake on this gun, and the brake doesn't have to be torqued to be timed since it has been slotted for a clamp screw. I just have to spin it on by hand, then snug the clamp screw down.

More related to caliber (overbore) and powder choice than anything. Should have nothing at all to do with barrel treatments.

Okay thanks for clearing that up for me.

I said the bending in mid-air, wek now that is impossible, it just "Looked" that way from the photograph

Keyholing happens when a bullet either strikes something or comes back out of supersonic speed- have heard the shock wave can cause it to tumble.

I've seen them do it and heard the twaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii type sound when it happens LOL
