Difference between a GAP 10 Gen 1 vs Gen 2?

Good evening,

I am shopping for a gas gun in .260 Rem and have a chance to purchase Gen 1 GAP10 in excellent condition.

I have tried a search for a previous thread explaining the differences with no luck.

Could someone please tell me what the differences are so I can make an informed decision on the purchase?

Any other information would be appreciated as well.

Gen 1 has hogan and 1 other brand that i cant recall upper and lower and gen 2 has seekins upper and lowers.

Would you buy a gen one? Do you believe there is much difference in accuracy?

The other brand gen 1 is pof. Im personally looking for a gen 2 but some people prefer the hogsn or pof gen 1. Personally both should be fine but i prefer seekins

I do like Seekins as well, but I think this first Gen will be a good start in learning big bore gas guns. Might have to upgrade quickly...

I think I will have it this week. Hope to shoot it this Saturday and see how well I can shoot a gas gun...

I was torn between this rifle, a JP, the Seekins M10, and the F&D. This was the best choice financially. Not a lot in the used market in a 260 semi.

Any advise or favorite loads?

I have been shooting 142gr SMKs with IMR4350 in a Lapua case. Great round in my 260 bolt, I realize I would be asking too much for it to be a great round in the gas gun. Figured I would start there.

Stevo3556, I don't have experience with .260, so I'm not much help on reloading for that round. (My GAP10 is 6mm Creedmoor) I would maybe try some factory match ammo trough it and see how that runs. This would give you a baseline of how well you and it shoots. Do you know how many rounds the rifle you are going to buy has through it? I'm lucky enough that my 6mm load is good in both my GAP10 and my bolt gun, so you may find yours is too. It may also be too "hot" for the gas gun. You might try downloading first and work your way up. I've always liked to review what others are doing, here on the Hide in the reloading section, then start a couple of grains lower and work my way up in .2 or .3 grain increments, until I find a "node" that I like.

The next thing I would do is go to the range for "purposeful" practice. Semi-autos are fun for "blasting", but if you want to get the best "precision" out of it, work on the fundamentals of shooting first. The gas gun recoils differently, so work on your aim, breath control, holding your aim, trigger control, etc. I suggest starting out prone and then working to other positions.

These gas guns are every bit as accurate as bolt guns now. I've found mine to be.

It has 88 rounds fired. So I will start with cleaning and ensuring the bbl is broken in. I know the person I am buying the rifle from is a pro and knows what he is doing so I expect it to be spotless and would expect not to find much copper.
I would expect my reloads for the bolt gun to be a little hot for the GAP. I have read what others are shooting thought I would see what you might have found was your load. Don't know why I thought you had a 260.
Rifle should be here Friday, shoot every sat, so hope to have some time Friday evening to load several different loads.
I know some people who are blisters, I'm not. I weight each powder charge Ect. Too much time and effort in reloading to blast. Goal is long range accuracy.
I have ARs and H&Ks to blast shooting tactically.

Stevo3556, when I got my first GAP rifle, I asked George about barrel "break-in". He told me to "Just go shoot it and have fun!" GAP laps the barrels, there's no need to do the break-in procedure. Maybe just run a patch down the barrel to clean out any debris that might have gotten in there during shipping, other than that go shoot it and have fun!

For what it's worth, I found on my GAP10 that it gets better the more you shoot it, then around 450 to 600 rounds I see the accuracy tapering off, so I clean it then. If you are going to suppress it, then you will need to clean more often, especially the BCG and inside the upper receiver.

Great to know. I clean my bolt guns at the range very couple hundred rounds, just 'cause. I will then shoot 5 rounds before I leave. I don't see any decrease in accuracy and I clean very little copper. I have planned on cleaning the auto more, but might not with that knowledge. I have a H&K 91 that I shot suppressed and notice the same. Observed the rounds in the mag were fouled. Maybe over gassing.... No adjustable gas port in the 91..

Funny, I think of Gen1 GAP gassers as Armalite Eagle upper and lower, Badger trapezoid HG and a 22" Schneider which were part of a group buy here way back when.

Those were some of the first, true, but never carried the moniker "GAP-10".
