Rifle Scopes Difference in rings and mounts??

I know this seems like a stupid question but what is the real difference in rings or mounts that cost $100 vs. those that cost $400. I have a Spuhr mount on my TRG22 and it is beautifully made but I have seen other mounts or rings that look to be made well.
if the mounting system is rigid and durable what is the real difference other than the cost? Sorry for such a newbie type question...

For one thing when you take your scope out of your Spuhr it is unlikely that it will have ring marks.
