Direct thread or ASR adapter for PRS style shoot

I have a MPA 6.5 Creedmoor that I have had for a short time now and have done a few shoots for fun. I am looking to do a night shoot in the very near future and it is required to have a suppressor. The question I have is should I go direct mount or will my ASR quick connection be ok. I have a feeling that the quick connection may cause issues with accuracy. Let me know your thoughts.

I would go direct. Having had issues with the old AAC mounts backing off in the past. I basically drilled, tapped and put set screws in my can to make it direct thread on the mount. Shoots great now. Plus the extra cost of having to buy a mount for each weapon gets to be a bit much. Just food for thought.

I wouldn't trust any kind of qd from aac. Are you talking about the ASR?

Direct would be my choice, just keep making sure it is tight.

Clean square shoulder keeps em tight. My Ranger was turned into a M4-2000 when that came out. What a waste.

ASR won’t have any detrimental impact on accuracy. If you’ll always use the can then the asr is easy answer. If you’ll only use it for this match then direct thread just so you don’t have to mount a brake/fh.

Did your post change? Could have sworn I read AAC. The ASR works fine, and id choose that over DT, but I shoot suppressed 100% of the time and prefer a tapered and nitrided muzzle device over a bare thread.

Yes changed after posting, ASR is the mount. I have an issue finding the 6.5 (.264) ASR brake as they are sold out. Would a 308 brake be the same or would there issues with the step up?

30 Cal. ASR will work fine with your 6.5.

I have a lot of rifles out there running ASR mounted Omegas and 36Ms. They are totally reliable and I have seen no issues with accuracy at all.

We basically never remove the can unless pulling maintenance on a gun. A direct thread suppressor could loosen mid string. The ASR can't due to the locking collar.

Like Terry says, I’d have no hesitation running at 30 caliber brake.

It’s repeatable, so I wouldn’t worry about it. Most people are playing musical cans between hosts. Easy to test if you like. My cans come off after every session.

I've seen no issues with accuracy or repeatability with the asr brake and my omega on my 308.

These two groups are a year apart. Can had been off and on a few times. Top group is only four shots. First shot was a sighter after mounting the scope. The bottom group is five though.

I do have an issue with mine coming loose at times. It was stuck bad one time and was getting down on it pretty hard trying to break it loose. When it came loose I got on the locking collar some how and damaged a couple teeth on the collar and the brake itself. Never had a problem before that though.

I like the dead air mount for the omega. If I didn't have so many asr mounts already I'd probably convert it.
