Drove 450 miles this weekend into the Adirondack Mountains for opening day of deer season for rifle, and both days I didnt even so much as hear a damn animal! Actually I did see an owl, but Im not going to shoot at it. Normally on open day it sounds like war out there, but this year I heard two shots. Probably from someone who got bored and took a shot at a crow or something. Anyone else have anything similar for experiences?

Sounds like me every year. My wife makes fun of me. I've proclaimed myself the most conservation friendly hunter in Missouri and Kansas, as I've left plenty game for the next hunter in line!

Around here there have been unlimited doe tags issued for several yrs. now. there is a three buck limit (2w/bow-one before firearms season and one after) and 1 w/firearm/muzzleoader. The seasons run as follows:13 day firearms season, 11 day Muzzleloader Season, 11 day antlerless only season, and Bow Season from 9-15 to 1-15 every yr. eventually the deer numbers will decline, as is evident in my observations this yr.

Inside the "Blue Line" is the poorest whitetail hunting in the State.

No fields full of food like here in the Finger Lakes region.

I've hunted the ADK for years just to get away from it all not to put venison in the freezer. Those few I've harvested have been thin and tough as shoe leather.

If you want to rough it hunt a spike camp off South Flow of Cranberry lake late in the season. I've been in hip-deep snow with it coming down so hard you couldn't see 20-yards.

Even the indians didn't live there in the winter.
