I'm trying to sell one of my custom rigs because I'm trying consolidate the calibers I shoot. At the lowest I wanted to get $1600 for it, but would prefer $1700-$1800 so far as value. I have a guy offering me a NF NXS 5.5-22x50 C202 with MLR reticle for it. New, it was a ~$2,000 optic, but it's a discontinued model; the pics make this one look hardly used.
Anyone know about the C202 model or MLR reticle and why they've been discontinued.
I'm very tempted to make the trade even though my shooting typically stays under 400m.
The trade would be face to face so I'd have a chance to really inspect it. Assuming it's looking good, should I be worried about making this trade?
    Thanks all.

Not to me and good luck trying to resale it.

30mm tube, SFP and 5 mil turrets?
30mm, SFP, and .1 MRAD turrets.
Even so, that was my first thought, there are certainly better options in 2019 for the same money.
Something I am weighing, is how hard it is to sell a used custom gun. Doesn't matter that there is ~$3000 into it. Other trade options I've received have been a PRI MK12 Mod 1 and POF P-308.

It's a solid piece of glass but of course it's SFP and check how the reticle subtends. If it works and you plan on keeping it, probably a "fair" trade but if you would most likely sell in the future you'll be at a loss at $1600 value.

What rifle are you trying to move? Details?

M24 Clone. It was built on a Rem 700 short action by a friend of a friend of a friend who used to be a Surgeon smith.

FWIW, I've bought half a dozen 5.5x22-50 NXSs over the last couple of years. One of my favorite scopes. They go $1200-$1300 with rings unless you have something special. Zerostop adds $150-$200.

SFP ATACRs with rings and 4x16-42s F1 are running $1850~ish. Market is flooded as everyone and their brother drops a new and improved über scope every year.

Great looking rifle. It's an awesome scope. Good luck with your sale/trade.

    FatBoy, so you’re saying it’s a buyer’s market?

With the availability of ATACRs in the $1850ish range, who’s still buying NXS? I’ve wanted an NXS forever but with all the talk about how great the 4-16x42 ATACR is, I can help but think I’ll be disappointed with the NXS.

This will likely be the only NF I buy for a long time due to the cost.

It seems to me that over time scopes depreciate in value and rifles appreciate in value.

The NF C202 without zero stop, high speed turret, and a more favored reticle is worth about $1100 in my book.

This one does say Zerostop on the box. But I see your point.

I'm still buying them. For the match shooting I do the ATACR SFP isn't worth the extra money. Buyers market is relative. They will likely not be worth less than they are now. My first 5.5-22 cost me $1250 with no ring. I bought one last month that was $1300 with rings. Not a huge savings over say, a Euro Optic demo or close out, but $300 is $300. A good to excellent condition NXS in the 22x range at $1100 won't last an hour here. At $1300 it may sit awhile. Maybe buys market isnt right, but the margins are narrower. A Zerostop model with matched reticle for under $1500 usually goes in a day or two.

The 4-16F1 is a tremendous scope, and if you need FFP I would go that way BUT do your research and consider the application. If you want to shoot tiny groups at any distance this may not be the scope for you. If your shooting movers and you trap the target, or you do a lot of wind holds with the reticle and like a bigger FOV, the F1 would probably fit the bill better.

Lots of stuff out there. I lf you have cash, patience and your diligently looking there are deals to be had.

I appreciate the thorough answer and I decided that, while the 4-16x42 F1 is feature rich, my uses would be better served with a SFP. I picked up a NIB NXS 3.5-15x50 HS ZS for a good price.

Many good reviews and a great scope at its prime however the scope market is saturated with fairly decent and high end scope IMO this is a good deal if you don't plan on selling the scope in future.

    This is what I've realized^
I told the guy that I was going to pass for now. There are a handful of other optics that I would buy over this one if I had the money to do so.

I’m in the same boat in regards to buying any NXS variants vs the ATACR line. The last used 4-16x42 F1 Mil-r atacr I bought was 1800 shipped. It’s just a better optic all around.
