Impossible to say without using a feeler gauge to check the fit. Tighten down each end with the opposing end loose, and try to slide a feeler gauge between the rail and receiver on the loose end. If you can't get a thin one (<.001") to slide between them on either end, you're probably okay.
When in doubt, bed it. You really have nothing to lose, if you bed it properly it will ALWAYS be more stress-free than the fit of the rail to the receiver with no filler.

I think you have to bed just about any 1pc base on a rem action. Some work out ok but some have a pretty brutal gap in the back. best way is to put the front screws in, tighten em down just a bit and see if the back comes up any leaving a gap.
Hell bedding only takes a second to do compared to a stock bed. You can use many things to do it and short of glueing the rail to the action you wont hurt anything doing it.

I used pro-bed 2000. When I talked to Ken @ nightforce he told me to bed it for a stress free fit + the recoil lug would get better contact.

has anyone seen a pictoral how-to on bedding a scope base?
do you use any release agent on the reciever before putting on that JB weld? How do you keep from having the threads get seized up in there?

I use JB Weld without any release agent. Don't see any need to ever remove a rail after gluing it on.

Couldnt that present a problem if you ever have to chuck the action into a lathe? Unless its already been done of coarse.
I used JB on mine. Came out perfect. One constant in the universe is that regardless of how high end a part like this is, it will never make 100% contact with every action out there. Bedding it just gives peace of mind that it will now make 100% contact from here on out.

I used JB on mine. Came out perfect. One constant in the universe is that regardless of how high end a part like this is, it will never make 100% contact with every action out there. Bedding it just gives peace of mind that it will now make 100% contact from here on out.

I just got done bedding my Savage. Eaaasy. I used permitex cold weld. Release agent was canning wax ( Could uses candles to I suppose) . Used plumbers putty to plug the holes and Mineral spirits to clean up with.
Mineral spirits was listed on the permitex data sheet.
Piece of cake. The savage had a little bit of a slope on the back of the receiver.

just for info, i used wax everywhere. base, action, screw holes, screws. all of it. the JB filled all the gaps and the screws hold it down so its not going anywhere. unless i want it to. and with the savage, alot of bases hang over the barrel nut. my ferrel doesnt, but alot do. you gotta take the base off to remove the barrel or cut the overhanging part off to get the nut wrench on the nut.
