Rifle Scopes Do you need a permit for night vision scopes?

Re: Do you need a permit for night vision scopes?

No permit required for a US citizen to buy a night vision scope in the US. There aren't any restrictions on civilians in this country owning/buying/selling NVDs. Now, exporting/importing requires some addt'l hoops to jump through and just generally shouldn't be done...and no civilians sales of IR lasers, but you won't have any troubles buying any NVD from any number of US dealers. Check your local/state laws for specific regulations on the use of NV for hunting, etc.

As for dealers, I recommend you get in touch with Victor at TNVC to discuss options and so the he can assist you with finding a device that meets your needs/budget. Here is his site:

GOOD LUCK!!

+1 what ORD said. You should get in touch with Victor at TNVC. Spending your hard earned money on cheap NV will be a real big let down and there are lot of people out there selling junk out.

since you got the answer you were looking for, I won't say the same thing they did, but now for the big problem... the $$$$ to fund your addiction. happy shooting

Re: Do you need a permit for night vision scopes?

lol I don't I don't have those $$$$. I was just curious. I have seen 1st generation I could afford at some point. But I would need a lot of research.

I think you can hunt Hogs at night in Texas. And ranchers will pay you to do it. But I would need a lot of research on that too.

But these rancher have cows on the property. I would think they wouldn't want just anyone shooting around their place.

They get those idea's on their own. We need to support the NRA.

Re: Do you need a permit for night vision scopes?

I believe Night Vision Scopes of a certain design are outlawed, except for police and military, in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia.

Re: Do you need a permit for night vision scopes?

Here in Kalifornia... illegal...

Sniperscopes Penal Code 468. Any person who knowingly buys, sells, receives, disposes of, conceals, or has in his possession a sniperscope shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000) or by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than one year, or by both such fine and imprisonment. As used in this section, sniperscope means any attachment, device or similar contrivance designed for or adaptable to use on a firearm which, through the use of a projected infrared light source and electronic telescope, enables the operator thereof to visually determine and locate the presence of objects during the nighttime. This section shall not prohibit the authorized use or possession of such sniperscope by a member of the armed forces of the United States or by police officers, peace officers, or law enforcement officers authorized by the properly constituted authorities for the enforcement of law or ordinances; nor shall this section prohibit the use or possession of such sniperscope when used solely for scientific research or educational purposes.

Theres some loop holes, but for the most part... no more night range seasons...

Thank GOD that the OP lives in the Free State of Texas where lawmakers would be stoned to death for even the mere suggestion of such a patently ABSURD and MEANINGLESS law!!

All they have to do is simply watch us to carve out their anti-gun agenda....too many of us give them more than enough ammunition.

As for the NRA, it's my opinion they would do FAR FAR more good for us if they were a not-for-profit organization and didn't strive to thrive on all the anti 2A legislation. The NRA was founded for the promotion of marksmanship back when it was thought that the best way to protect the Rights of Americans was through a trained and armed citizenry. This of course was before the enemy came so strongly from within. Today it's a system of compromise and lobbying used in courts and law maker's offices to merely slow down the onslaught of anti gun laws. Not saying the NRA doesn't do any good, they do infact do a lot of good compared to having nothing at all....but if we all of a sudden defeated the anti gun agenda (socialism/communism/fascism) one day there would be little need for the NRA in it's current function. I could go further by equating the NRA's fund driving mantra with another well known American institution but that would probably send some right over the edge.

Again, this is just my opinion......which I believe I still have a Right to.

Re: Do you need a permit for night vision scopes?

I'm a NRA member and I live in CA.
I have seem some good work from them in other places in the country but I often ask "what have you done for me lately?"

The quote of the penal code 468 above is clearly against the intent of the 2nd amendment. My right to bear arms are seriously infringed here in CA and these communist hippies in the legislature don't have a constitutional leg to stand on but no one is stepping up.

Sorry to go off topic but the ops question has been answered.

BRING IT NRA!

Thank you, Hellbender. You are correct, unless it has been changed again.

The laws in Kalifornia are quite bad enough, without being misinformed as to what they say, exactly. I suggest that anyone in Kalifornia who is interested in NV get copies of all pertinent laws, and read them very carefully.
