Rifle Scopes Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

LL:

That's an extremely generous offer. I know that you requested pics, but I moved to CO 6 weeks ago from TX for a job change and get to move my family and my firearms in a couple of weeks, so I have no pictures to show. But my setups are a remy 700 xcr with harris bipod and a 50 cal with one Bushnell Elite 6500 to share between the two. I would love the opportunity to mount a mil/mil to the remy and eventually replace the Bushnell with a mil/mil on the 50. Thank you for your consideration.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

I would like to take you up on the offer.

My set up needs an upgrade. It is a Savage SA in 308win. The barrel is off of a Rem PSS that was cut down, threaded an chambered for the Savage action. The MB is made by a person on the Hide. He cut an threaded the barrel for the brake. The scope is a KONUS M30, so I really need an upgrade. The rifle is a real mix-master, but shoots great. Thanks for the chance.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

Frank,

Awesome offer. I'll pass it around to see who I know could use one. I don't. I've currently got a bunch. And some need to go... even if they aren't up to what you're offering.

Yeah, my thoughts too.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

My first vote would be for one of our guys overseas. If that can not happen, then an LEO here.

I'll throw myself into the hat. I just box tested (36 minutes vertical, 12 minutes horizontal) six Leupolds that I got for some of my officers today and what a disappointment. Too much adjustment per click, especially in windage. I need to re-test, but today found that .25 MOA windage turrets adjust more like .5 MOA, consistently.

Thanks,

RB

Here is a better photo of the rifle posted earlier in this thread by some really good friends. It now sports a take-off barrel from a benchrest shooter who had no more need for it and a used Rifle Basics trigget snagged from the for sale section here.
I get by OK with the old IOR I guess. Its fixed 16X and has repeatable .25 inch adjustments. I mostly use hold overs and and have found that 14 clicks is pretty darn close to a mil of adjustment. If I need a half mil of wind for example, just dial 7 clicks and let it fly.
The real pain is having a hold dope chart and a dial dope chart to remember. I will someday upgrade to a more versatile mil/mil setup, but the IOR is getting the job done.
Its good to be part of a community who would make an offer like this and even better to have friends who would think to throw my name in the hat.
You are all welcome to come here and join in the shooting!

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

LL, I would like to nominate my father, for a Mil on Mil, he is a great father, was great fire chief, vietnam vet and an all around outstanding human being. He came from a tragic, humble beginning, but never complained and never looked back.
I gave him a built up rem 700 and would love to see him with a mil on mil optic.(it makes me ill to see him trying to use a tasco!!)

Please throw his name in the hat if a drawing is in the works.

Thanks, Brian

Well, maybe you should know that my son doesn't deploy to Afghanistan until the first week of November...I think he flies out the day of or after his birthday.

Two weeks of leave in Oct, so no Export worries. He's right now trying to decide between a different scope or detach mag bottom metal. The 140-gr Creedmoor ammo didn't arrive until after he left the last weekend here, and rifle re-qualifications are keeping him at 29 Stumps even after the exercise is over.

Still trying to get away to snap some pics. He has Seekins base and rings, a Vortex Viper, and some impressive targets with those first 34 rounds of 123-gr ammo.

Grump,

If your son needs anything over there shoot me an e-mail. I have lots of contacts over there. As soon as he gets over there get his address and will start sending him care packages.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

I'd kinda like to try a mil/mil scope, but I'm afraid I'd like it too much. Then I'd have to buy two more to outfit the rifles I have, then 6 more to outfit our tac team.

And I don't have a red cent for any of that.

So quit tempting me, dammit!

And all we have are Rem 700s with leupold 3.5-10 (some are the old vari-x 3 tactical even). All Mil/MOA. Not the latest, not the greatest, but still serving their purpose.

I'm convinced the Mil/Mil system is better - we just can't afford to buy new scopes.

I'm not totally convinced on the FFP thing for what we do, though. That I'd have to try out over a period of time to get a feel for and make up my mind.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

Hells yeah!!! I have two scopes and both are MOA. I have been thinking about MIL/MIL but have been holding off until things turn around a little. I would like to try MIL/MIL because it seems like everyone is using it and talking in MILS. Maybe I just need to join the club. Here is my Luppy Vari-X II 3-9X40. Its all I got right now but, it works....Sometimes. OK it does not work at all. Damn thing fogs up and wont hold a zero to save my life. I am not sure if you can see it from here but the tube has a little dent in it. Not sure how it got there but it might be part of the tracking problem. :)

Scope is on a Lefty Rem 700 300 Rum.
Shilen barrel and vias brake.
HS stock with Karsten Cheek Piece.
I am kind of a sissy so I also have a extra butt pad. LOL. You shoot it 10 times and tell me how it feels. HAHA.

Thanks for the consideration

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

Guys,

I tossed it up in the air and saw where it stuck, and while i know a lot of people wanted me to give it to an active duty guy, right now I am going in another direction.

I have other scopes, and will be doing this again. I am going to pass as many of my perks of the site back on to the members, so this won't be the last time we do this.

For now, I am sending the Weaver Grand Slam Tactical to J.S.T. Glenn... He will be receiving the scope to use. I hope he enjoys it.

Thanks all, and again, we'll revisit this in the not so near future.

I appreciate it.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

One thing all can be sure of is that this scope will get plenty of use and not just by me.

Thanks to Frank for such generosity and for letting us all hang out on this site.

Will post up pics when I get it mounted up as well.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

Why am I seeing a lot of upgraded rifles with no upgraded glass? If you can afford DBM, muzzle brakes, etc. why not better glass? I hope some one that can't afford it/needs it/deserves it, gets a scope.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

way cool...

its great what Glen is doing with his farm, and I hope work picks up for you...

possibly, next time, we all could bone up to make Franks generosity even better...

if we have something that may benefit the shooter as well,we could mail it in and the shooter gets a cool box with misc.gear for the mans system...

I could mail off a box of ammo, in example. nothing large but when combined with others, its christmas to the max...

very cool place here...

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

Great site and the Hide members are fantastic. Frank's (aka LL) posts about the benefits of mil/mil and FFP persuaded me to take the plunge. I invested in IOR's 3.5-18x142 and couldn't be happier. I took to it like a duck to water.

Time to pay it forward. Hide members are welcome to come to my place and use my 300 yard range and shop to tune their rifle and adjust their optics. I'm located 25 miles south of Madison Wisconsin.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

Frank,

I can honestly say Glenn is the best person to give this riflescope too.

I just read this post and what Humungus posted is 100% right on. Glenn is the most giving person I ever met in my life.

See you this weekend Glenn and that riflescope!!!!!

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

Glad it made it there okay, and I hope you guys, all of you put it too good use.

I hope to have more scopes to give away after a few more demo's and reviews.

I really appreciate all the members who contribute here, as well as those who contribute to our sport and community.

Cheers,

Yes there are, just wondering how he liked it, was expecting some follow up after so many members tried to get the demo.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

As for the follow-up...

I am currently running the Weaver on a Savage 110 in 30-06 loaded with 178 Amax over a stout charge of 4350. This is a lightweight rifle that I use deer hunting an kicks like a mule. If the weaver makes it through deer season without losing zero or having a failure I will mount it on a more suitable rifle.
Frank already wrote the report of the box test and overall performance.
I do really like the small overall size of this optic for a hunting rifle, and the low light performance is surprisingly good.

Re: Do you want to try a Mil / Mil Scope ?

I just now got to read into this thread, and I think you were the best (in country) choice overall. Congrats on the scope, and be sure to let us know about the long haul test drive with the kickin mule!!
