Does anyone know if a Tikka Sporter will go in a W3 chassis?

I am trying to figure out for sure if a Tikka Sporter .308 will go into a Whiskey 3 chassis. I wrote KRg personally and they were 99% sure it would but did not know for sure. Needless to say there email doesn't convince me enough to buy a Tikka for $1500 and drop it in. Any of you have any idea?

It should, the only difference will be the barrel profile and length, the footprint is the same.

Are you sure you wanna drop $1500 on a Tikka Sporter, only to switch it to a KRG? You're paying premium for the stock, which is a pretty awesome stock by the way,... if you're bent on getting a KRG stock, why not get one of the lesser 'Poly" model stocks. Just a thought.

By the way,... I LOVE Tikka's... they're fantastic!

Unfortunately, Beretta doesn't import the poly stock heavy barrel rifles anymore. The other heavy barrel option is the tactical, which costs just as much.

^^^^Exactly. So, it's either go the SAC route from Mark or buy a donor gun like a regular T3 .308 and then sent it off to have a new barrel and stuff out on it, or buy the sporter or the tac model. Either way I wind up spending about the same with the SAC being the most expensive route. The only thing is I cannot find out if the sporter and the other T3s are the same actions. I am getting different stories. I have been told the spotters use different type magazines and I have never seen a sporter in another stock either. So, I am not 100% sure if they are indeed the same. I wish there was someone on here with both that could tell me and take pics.

Yes, the Sporters use the same action. Tikka is...stingy...as far as their actions go. Hence why .223 Rem and .300 Win Mag are both in the same action size (both long action). This allows them to produce a very high quality rifle at a reasonable price point, but of course, the .223 guns carry around a lot of extra weight and length. All in all, the fact that all Tikkas are using the same action is a big cost saving technique for Tikka.

If you're not convinced, I have a Sporter barreled action sitting around waiting for a Manners stock. I can take some pics for you if you'd like.

Found a Used, but never shot Sporter in 260, in the process of selling off the old stock, and dropped in into a WC3 this week.

Yea they are the same. Sporters come with shitty plastic BM and a plastic mag. If you dont NEED a tactical stock or AICS mags, then the Sporter stocks are badass. You can check the threads of some guys who have painted theirs, and they look like TRG Stocks.
If you sell your stock, you are looking at around $1000 for a barreled sporter or Tac. They have heavy barrels and are threaded. They do not need to be trued, as the action is made correct at the factory and they come with the finest factory produced barrel. Big plus is the .260 comes in 1-8 twist for shooting heavies. It is cheaper than buying a remington, having it trued, having a barrel chambered/cut/fit... and IMO, you have a superior action with the tikka over the rem.

Thanks for the pics man! I am glad to see that it can be done. Where did you buy your AICS mags from? That is next on the purchase list. Any problems with mag retention in the chassis? Also, just to clarify, the W3 is compatible with the standard AICS 5 and 10 round mags, correct?

I say "Do It!", as well. If KRG was able to make the W3 for the T3 that accepted long action AI mags (mine is 6.5x55), I would have done the same thing. I went McMillan and I love it, but the W3 would have been my first choice. The factory barrel/action are awesome, but if I had the cash, right now, I wouldn't even hesitate to go the SAC route. You're talking minimum/no difference in price to get a custom and the wait time would be far less than piecing it together, yourself. That, in itself is worth it. It took, me a year and a half to put mine together and the waiting sucked!

Edit: Yes, the W3 will take AI 5 and 10 round mags.
