Does anyone reload for the 7.62x39 and is it worth reloading for?

I have a mini 30 in this caliber and need something to reload for so I was wondering.

I have never thought to reload for this before because I can find ammo so cheap, but I wouldn't mind reloading it just because I want something to do.

I do it for my grandson's SKS. Uses 1680, and 139gr. bullets, I believe? One thing is that the Hornady dies came with two different expander balls, a .308 and .311. I just used the 308's with 308 bullets. The accuracy, with open sights is surprisingly good, certainly good enough for plinking and I think it would qualify as a behind the seat coyote gun, in a pinch. BB

i wouldn't reload for your mini unless you were looking for accuracy gains.

i dont think you'd save to much money either, at least i didnt

Re: Does anyone reload 7.62x39?

I was just interested in getting some accuracy increase and I just sort of need something to reload for right now since I am caught up on all my other calibers.

I know this is sort of a dumb question, but I won't know the right answer unless I ask:
Are these reloaded with your typical .30 cal (.308") bullets? I have some Hornady 150gr SSTs left over from my last .308 batch.

Also, where would be the best place to buy some once fired brass?

Thanks again.

What is the bore diameter for the Mini-30?

Is it .308", or is it typically the .310"-.311" size for the AK-47s and SKS rifles we find in most of the x39 weapons. I don't know that weapon.

If it's .308", then you can use .308" bullets. If it's not, then you want to use something in the .310", or .311" range.

I can't answer that question for you.

I reload for a ChiCom 56S AK-47 and some more experienced reloaders for the x39 cart have frankly said that they reloaded tons and that they've never gotten better accuracy out of their reloads than they've gotten from shooting the Russian factory stuff.

For some reason, the Russiand have the formula down pat, is what they've found.

This being said...and as the guy above mentioned, seek out some AA-1680 powder and the ~.310" bullets and go from there...that is if your bore on the Mini-30 is ~.310".
