They seem like a really nice scope, and can be purchased at a discount now that Leupold is going to discontinue that model. I am eyeing a VX-7 in 3.5-14x50 with a 30mm tube. You get free alumina flip back covers, plus a free service from thir custom shop.

I want to put it on a Sako TRG .300 win for a beanfield rig.

Anything bad about these scopes? I could get one wholesale from a friend for like $999.00.

Any comments are appreciated.

I've never had a VX-7 but I have had VX-3's Great scopes and the flip back covers....big deal. For the price difference I can't see it being worth it. If you want to spend the money on a VX-7, just get a Mark 4 and be done with it.

Nothing wrong with it @ all for a smoother/trim hunting piece of glass . My brother got a new one last week.
this Vx7 model you are talking about . I KNOW . ( OK ) It's Not Tactical & it is without the Tall Target Knobs & you won't get but Leu. duplex Ret. also .
But the ( Pop-Up Turret ) were Nice and 'crisp'-'Firm' audible clicks and it was a Excellent glass with big eye relief too . It was a nice scope & the fine focal clarity of the glass was pretty great .
The Turrets are not traditional Tall target M1 turret but they do pop-up in height out of the flush lock position and stay there till put back down and locked . When there Popped-up, you work them like any other for elevation changes . It was nice scope for a good clean, trim packing hunting scope .

Thanks. That's the intended use- hunting. I do like the pop up turrets. Glass is supposed to be top notch.

Re: Does anyone run a Leupold VX-7?

For a hunting scope, they are very competitive
-20moa per rev - just like the new nightforce
-lightweight (relative)
-turrets don't get caught on stuff
-I like the covered turrets, after a day of hiking you don't have to wonder if you turret got accidently turned if a quick shot presents itself.
I have one on a carry 338 edge. Nice scope, works perfect for what I use it for.

where did you see this?

Re: Does anyone run a Leupold VX-7?

Here and elsewhere. Leupold is supposed to be coming out with a VX-6 line in 2011.

Thanks for your "hands on" opinion. You and softcock have actually handled them, and that's the type of feedback I was looking for.

I have the VX 7L 4.5-18X56 with the B&C reticle and as much as I would love to tell you I should have bought something else, I can't. It is awesome! It doesnt have zero stop, which it desperately needs, buts its repeatability and tracking is phenomenal. You can 'hide' the turrets, not handy in a tactical situation, but valuable if you carry your gun where it may be bumped. All in all an outstanding scope. Let me know if you need one, I have a contact.

Re: Does anyone run a Leupold VX-7?

My hunting buddy has one on his Tikka 338wm. He likes the pop up turrets, and the glass is equal to my MK4. Tracks well, no problems for a year now. I would use one on a hunting rig if I could get a deal on one.
