My point is...You will take a hit on everything you buy new if you try to sell it...You'll take a bigger hit if you gotta sell it fast!...Enjoy the shit you got...That is why you buy'em...

Ok I have been thinking about this and while you make good points...give your jet ski or used car a "custom" paint job from a rattle can and see what what your value is....im just sayen....

I saw the comment earlier about le snipers don’t have to worry about cost. BS if I want it I have to buy is the only thing my department paid for was the sniper school ( Department Cost=$425, My Cost=$4,000 and counting) and guess what they think I owe them something because they sent me to school. Had an Abilene PD sniper tell me “you cant sneak up on a man with a black rifle“. Painted the whole thing ever since.

X2 almost 100% accurate for my situation

Re: does paint on your scope kill the resale?

Selling a painted rig down the road is always harder. The best bet is to keep the rifle/scope together, but in almost every post you see with a scope/rifle someone is asking if the seller will separate them. So certainly painting a rig can make it harder to sell and if you end up splitting the rifle/scope up it's even harder to move the scope.

Myself I won't touch a painted scope unless it's significantly cheaper, there's no way to verify external condition with a couple of coats of krylon on a scope. Plus there's the fact that whatever it's painted is probably not how I want it painted, so that means I have to go through the extra work of stripping and prepping it again.

Now if it was professionally duracoated and was the exact color I wanted I'd probably consider it, but that rarely happens.

So yes, painting a scope will lower interest and probably reduce the price you get back out of it. However, if you want to do it, do it, resale is a consideration of course, but in the end if you will enjoy the rig more painted, losing some $ down the road shouldn't be enough to keep you from doing it.
