I know you can do it while on the gun and shooting groups, but was always curious what contraption people use for this.

Just watched a few youtube videos and the scope was apparently bolted/strapped to something because even at 20x and a guy cranking the turrets, the damn thing didn't even move a fraction.

    What are they using?

I seen a setup someone was selling that was made out of 2" square tubing with a riser for a scope base to mount to. It was stupid expensive for what it was, I think around $300 for it. I've got a 24' stick of 2" tubing that I'm going to make one to give it a try. I figure if I fill it up with lead shot it should be pretty solid.

Killswitch Engage has a device that he called "The Humbler" for all his scope tracking tests. I believe it was a foot long section of heavy steel I-Beam with a pic rail on top and four screws mounted in the bottom corners so he could level it. Weighed 60-70lbs or something like that.

Based on Killswitch Engage's "Humber" I built a couple smaller, easier to ship, ones that were made from 1" thick precision ground plate that had a pic rail, 2 preciion levels and 4 leveling feet mounted to it. The thing weight about 30lbs when complete and if you weren't a gorilla on the knobs you could dial it around on the box without any motion of the base plate. I made up some objective occluding scraps of paper so I could focus it down onto the far side of the room and went from there.

    Have a pic of this?

I know the basic premise of what you need to make one as far as everything being level, yet being able to level it also to whatever its sitting on. I also know you can just do this by shooting the rifle and measuring, but was interested in getting something together that I could just put a scope on without needing the rifle and being 100% about the results.

Saw someone made one (forget who) and it was cool, but not $275 cool.

Another option. Frank used a version of it teaching in Alaska. It’s not cheap.
