DPMS Barrel torque !!

Had this dpms 260 rem upper straight from the factory and decided to put a smooth side upper and Jp free float tube and have it all cerakoted so decided to take it all apart , Removed gas block then gas tube then put the rubber strap on free float tube to remove tube from barrel nut and with im not joking less then 5# pounds of force the whole thing barrel nut and tube together just came off!! is this normal? thought it was supposed to be torqed to between 30 and 60 lbs.Anyway it took me a half hr. of heating and twisting to get barrel nut off of free float tube (loctited on)sorry for long post.

I had always heard horror stories about how terribly hard people usually have to work to get the DPMS tubes off the uppers.

For whatever reason, I think your joint was unusually easy to loosen.

Usually, it takes a combination of heat, Kroil oil, heat, and a strap wench to get an upper off....often in combination with a breaker bar.
