hey guys im new here and need some help i am about to buy my first AR its either going to be the mark 12 or sass i know the sass is sub moa capable but it is heavy, out weighing the mk 12 by 2 pounds. i will spend some time at the bench but more in the field?

any input on the situation is appreciated

Re: dpms mark 12 or sass

I had a mk12 Dpms and that rifle was very accurate. It came with 1-8 twist ss barrel. The 69-77gns bullets were printing sub moa very easly.I do regret selling that rifle.

Re: dpms mark 12 or sass

im looking at the 308 caliber, another issue is the mk 12 is cheaper which means better glass.

and what makes the SASS so much heavier that the mk 12 basically the same gun besides the barrel. sass being bull and mk 12 being heavy.

i have been debating this decision for months and im buying in two weeks so gotta decide.

Re: dpms mark 12 or sass

I just got my mk12 upper today and it was surprisingly light, its something like 8 lbs. But it doesn't really feel heavy. Im waiting on my lower to come in. Ill update with pics when I get it.

Re: dpms mark 12 or sass

I bought both mark12 and mini sass, but since I bought a .308 sass I decided to sell the mark12. Both have great potential of sub guns just takes some time of getting use to. When I bought them I shoot only bolt guns so completely different ball game but either will be a good choice.

Re: dpms mark 12 or sass

My SASS dressed out with a full mag and USO optics weighs in at 17 lbs. I wouldn't want to hike 20 miles wearing a 50lb pack while getting screamed at by a drill Sergeant while carrying it, but I'd surely hunt with it.

Define "in the field" for yourself and you'll have your answer.
