Does anyonw know what FF Handguard and Gas block they use on the DPMS .308 SASS?

I googled and searched but couldnt find it.

It looks like a YHM tube maybe.

Also What length Gas tube? Will a Regular AR-15 Rifle length gas tube work?

Re: DPMS SASS Build Questions

The DPMS SASS uses the propriatary DPMS SASS GB. Its expensive ($99). IMO youre better off with a Palladin adjustable GB whether or not you plan to use a can. Theyre around $60 and there nice to use to turn down the gas and limit recoil and parts wear.

Re: DPMS SASS Build Questions

The according to DPMS SASS web page there part number is
308-FF-4SL for the handguards. (http://www.dpmsinc.com/search/?s=308-ff-4sl)

And for the Gas block it doesn't say and from the online picture of it I cannot see it well enough to tell you. I am sure its just a low profile gas block. I found the gas blocks that at least say they are for the SASS. Here is the link if it helps.

Good luck with the build. I have a LR-308 and I love it.

Re: DPMS SASS Build Questions

The only listing I found online for the DPMS gas block puts it at .93 something. My barrel measures .915ish according to my calipers. Whatever gas block you get will have to be a very low profile one that rises less than 1/2" at the top.

This is a front shot of my cali legal mixmaster. Hope this helps:

Re: DPMS SASS Build Questions

the one they sell is 0.936 from DPMS. who makes the adjustable palladin GB? i couldnt find it anywhere. PRI makes a nice low-pro gas block but its for a 0.750 barrel.

the stock DPMS SASS barrel is almost gonna require the $90 GB due to the way its made. one guy here got another gas block to work, but said looking back he would have just used the stock one if he had known about the mods he had to do to get the GB he chose to work.

Re: DPMS SASS Build Questions

there is one of those PRI gas blocks for $40 in the for sale section. its not the 0.936 inner diameter, but if you look at the sass block the hole is higher than that

Re: DPMS SASS Build Questions

Not just any .936 block will work as they went non-standard on the distance from the shoulder to the gas hole to sell more of their $99 overpriced GBs. This link shows the contact data for Palladin. He will square you away. Tell him the gas hole diameter and the distance from the barrel step-down and he can have one to you usually in about 10 days or so.[/quote] http://secure.adpay.com/clicknbuy.aspx?itemid=2541516&p=2079&st=1

wow, really? i had thought it was that the shoulder of the barrel was just high enough that the other gas blocks hole for the gas tube would not clear the shoulder.

it seems that DPMS is doing alot of little proprietary stuff, first they changed the rail height on the receivers and now you can only use their fore ends, now this little combo. they are slowly working their way into last choice for a build.

Re: DPMS SASS Build Questions

I would get a different barrel, I think there's a medium profile krieger you can get from fulton that will fit into a dpms upper it's 18" and midlength. That would give you some breathing room on the gas block while still using the dpms sass hanguard if you wanted to and the rifle would be just as accurate (maybe more so) and weigh a pound? less.

The stock sass barrel is surprisingly heavy.

edit: fulton says it's 18.5 "light" profile with a .750 gas block and rifle length gas system. I would seriously consider a barrel with that profile over the dpms sass profile. At 344 new it's only 45 bucks more than a new sass barrel too.

I wish I'd thought of these things back when I was shopping for an upper rather than just buying a factory sass one.
