I'm not just posting without looking but I can't seem to find a drag bag for use with an AIAW when folded i.e. looking for nothing longer than 42 inches and nothing shorter than 40 inches. I only shoot for pleasure not operationaly but need a decent bag that will protect my gear.

In the UK we have a company that makes bags called AIM drag bags. They do a 40 inch model but the butt stock doesn't fit into the pocket. I could get the larger 50 inch model but this would be too large for my carbine and ideally want the smallest bag that fits in my car with ease. The UK distributer for AI can't get them and endless google searches have drawn a blank.

Any of you AI owners know of a bag that would be suitable?

Re: Drag Bag for a AIAW folded

I had one for a while that was a custom, it worked well.

There's a guy on here that goes by HasGunWillTravel and he makes very nice stuff. I'm sure he could make you a bag to your specifications.

Re: Drag Bag for a AIAW folded

I'm using an Eagle bag:

http://www.eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=363&page=1

It fits my AW fine but it is probably longer than you want (my AW has a 26" barrel and an OAL of 48")

Fits the AW plus two large external pockets for all the usual kit (spotter, ammo, hearing protection, tool kit, TAB gear mat) and stowable shoulder straps (ideal for a longer walk).

Only criticism I'd make is that the internal straps are not as flexible as the "issue" bag that I originally had form Sporting Services and it is front heavy when loaded (I think Triad offer a version with the handles moved?)

They do a smaller one for M4 size rifles....but it may be a struggle to get even a folder in here. It is only around 40" long overall I think.

One website in the UK you might want to check out is: http://www.rifle-cases.co.uk

Also maybe look at the Tac Ops but I've never been able to get one to the UK.

If you're ever down at Bisley, I'd be happy to show you the eagle.

Re: Drag Bag for a AIAW folded

I have made many bags of this type and have sent them all over the world. You specific what you want the bag to be, I build it.

The only problem with GRT is the wait time, I am so busy with custom orders, wait times are long, 4-8 weeks for larger custom bags, and other non production items..

Many people can not wait this long for the very finest nylon gear, however those that do are glad they did, and a vast majority of my business now are repeat clients.

There are a handful of custom riggers on the hide that make kick ass shit, someone can get you exactly what you want.

Re: Drag Bag for a AIAW folded

For just hauling gear to and from the range I personally recommend something different than an actual drag bag.
From my experience it adds bulk over a design like the HSRC or similar concepts.
I have several different types with the HSRC as a clear favorite for the longer guns and a dirt cheap but for its price well though out an built Woodoo for shorter weapons.
For range use I keep going back to these as the drag bags at least seem to take up more space, and the flat ones serve multiple purposes, shooting mat and gear storage.
Not saying a drag bag doesnt hold plenty of gear but it is not very comfy to lay on and loaded it tends to roll around.
For moving over distance with a rifle it is to me the opposite, but then again I find it more comfortable to have a more rounded object strapped to your back or the side of your ruck for periods of time...
Just my .02 though

Re: Drag Bag for a AIAW folded

I spoke to Eagle about fixing the location of the handles on the drag bag while at SHOT 2009. They said that they would move them only on special orders of 25 or more in one color. I ordered 25 in multicam to make it happen. The ones they sent did NOT have the handles moved forward so I returned all of them. Shortly after that, Eagle changed the stocking product so they all have the new location for handles. Any Eagle drag bag made in the last year or so should be the updated version.

On a slightly different note, have you seen the issue "case" for the SA-80? Looks a bit like a tactical version of old "Leg of Mutton" shot gun case..Its designed to fasten to a bergan or similar and IIRC has molle webbing on it..

If you a source of these on the surplus market, I'd be interested to know it..

Peter

Does it have to be a proper drag bag? SOF sell a 40" case meant for an M4...they also sell a 47" case..see

Re: Drag Bag for a AIAW folded

Tac Ops short drag bag works great for an AIAW. It may take a few days but I will try to get a photo of a folded AW in the short Tac Ops DB. I believe it will handle a 43" max OAL rifle.

Re: Drag Bag for a AIAW folded

Ended up buying the AIM 40 bag, the owner met me at the range and I tried a couple of bags. The AIM 40 did fit after all, I'd tried it before and couldn't get it in so I don't know if the spec has changed or I was just a muppet.

Very impressed with the spec for the money, loads of shooters at my club have had then for years with no horror stories so far.
