I really liked the idea of this LaRue drag bag that has bipod loops, only problem is the bag is too small to fit my Rem 700.

I instead purchased a drag bag from Eagle industries and am thinking about doing the mod myself. I like the idea of being able to really lean into the bipod. Anyone have a setup similar to this?

Thinking to sew the strap on the edge of the buttstock flap (pictured on the left) so the bipod can extend off the mat slightly and rest on the ground.

Re: Drag bag modification: bipod loops

There is a Drag Bag/Shooting mat combo I am planning to buy (locally manufactured) and it has two adjustable loops in front, so the bipod rests on the ground. It is fine on solid ground, but on sand the bipod sinks, especially during repeated shots.

I had a similar idea from Blackhawk shooting mat that can be done to any fold up drag/shooting mat/bag. The Blackhawk bags have a Camelback pocket at the carry handle into which I shoved a dowel (or PVC pipe). You sew, attach etc a long pocket for a 1" PVC pipe at the "head" of the mat/bag. This allows you to push your bipod legs against the pocket / tube while your body anchors the mat. It's light weight and would cost about $5.00 to have done.

Works for me.

Cheers,

Re: Drag bag modification: bipod loops

After I posted this I realized in the flap on the left sticking out that it has two buckles on the ends.. As a quick mod, I bet I can just get two female buckles on a stretch of webbing and right there is my loop to put the bipod through. Might need to re-enforce the stitching on the buckles and on the folding point of the flap. Hmmm

Let us know how that worked. I wish my drag bag had bipod loops. I might just end up getting out some thread and needle to put one on.
