How far back are most of you keeping your drag bag when you are crawling? Are you using 550 to connect it to you or something else? Is the connection point directly to your belt or elsewhere? Just looking to see if I can try somethings differently.

Re: Drag Bag Question

550 is cheap and strong, I'd use that. I'd also do what is most comfortable and works best for you. Maybe a belt loop? Or get a small chunk of nylon webbing and a D-ring, and sew it to a spot on your ghillie (assuming you are using one) where you feel it is placed best.

Re: Drag Bag Question

I used a length of 550 chord that would extend a few inches past my feet while in the prone, and attached it to a d-ring that was clipped onto my rigger's belt. This allowed free movement of my legs while crawling, but it wasn't so far behind that it would get hung up if I turned a corner. This wasn't the SOP for our platoon, but most guys did it this way.

Re: Drag Bag Question

I used a rope that was about 10mm in OD green and had it run the length of my drag bag twice and the end not attached to the drag bag I have a d-rig that i would attach to the bag when not in use and when i was low crawling it would clip to my rigger belt.

Re: Drag Bag Question

I use 1/4" nylon rope tied to the nose of the drag bag, and a d-ring clipped onto one of the suspenders of my ghillie. I don't usually wear a belt on my ghillie, that's why I do it that way. I also try to keep the line as short as possible. It takes some getting used to, but I like to have as much control over the bag as possible.

Re: Drag Bag Question

550 cord will work and its cheap and available. Double strand with knots tied every fer inches. The knots do two things. One, they make it easy to retrieve your bag, and two, they allow the user to adjust the length of the bad behind you.

When crawling I prefer to have the bag about ankle level or a bit higher. This allows you to move the back with your feet, keeping it free of snags and causing unnecessary overhead movement.

When using a hands and knee crawl I like it just below the knees and mid calf. TO do this you need to chance the length of cord from the crawling length to a bit shorter.

I snap a D ring to the metal loop on a riggers belt.

This^ Then tie 550 cord to it.

This. The only change I've ever done is I braid a piece of 550 cord that length. Not because the 550 isn't strong enough but A) I get really bored on Staff duty at night and B) I like having lots of extra 550 and this eliminates me from having to stash it elsewhere.

Re: Drag Bag Question

I use 550 or a section of climbing rope, connect with a D-rind to a riggers belt. I prefer to run the rope long enough to have the lead end of the drag bag between my calfs so I can control the bag with my feet. I dont attach it to my top because I am pulling 20lbs +. Just my $.02
