New to the game fella's- I am researching for a good quality 51" drag bag. I will be draging an FN SPR 308 with Lupe on board. This bag should match quality for funds. I know just because it costs a lot it may not be very good. So let me know what you think!

I have read many adds on VOODOO bags and the eagles as well. But they are not reviews - the people I have come to respect are the Hide members!!

PS- I have searched in trhee forums on the board and the key words drag and bag bring many posts that are not on the subject.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I like my Blackhawk stuff, have a drag bag on the way to hold the "new" mountain rifle. Hope it's as good as the other stuff of there's I have.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

Midwayusa.com has there midway brand drag bags for right at $100, 51" , lots of storage, handles, straps, also backpack straps. Bought one for just a range carry case.

So far very satisfied, no complaints. Extremely good value

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

Tac Ops bags are the key for quality. Workmanship and materials are all top notch.

Sure, there are cheaper alternatives out there but all you get is a cheaper bag. You have to ask yourself what is your rifle worth and are you willing to get what you pay for?

Go with the Tac Ops bag.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

check out natchez. They had eagle deeply discounted. If they have any left pick one up. If you dont like it you can easily resell it for what you have in it or maybe even for a profit.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

Tac Ops makes a great bag. I recently switched to an Eagle though because it carries better as a backpack, and was a bit lighter and more compact.

Bingo!

Thats what I did. I forget where he sources his from but a couple other companies are starting to use the same upstream supplier.

Its a SERIOUSLY quality bag and well worth the money.

I have mine outfitted with a hydration bladder, etc, and it works REALLY well for trekking through the grasslands out here.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I personally dont drag my rifles around so I use pelicans cause they get thrown in the back of the truck headed to the range. I have friends that have used both the Tac Ops and the Eagle, both great quality kit, cant go wrong with either in my opinion

I do have a 3 day Sniper pack made by Bulldog Equipment that I won at JSOC 2 years ago and it's the tits, but apparently they only sell to Mil and LE, wtf

Anybody else have an opinion on the Midway drag bags? I think they are on sale this month for around $60. Seems like a decent bag for my uses. I am not going to be dragging it or really anything else very serious other than throwing it in the back seat of my pick up. Not against spending good money for a good product but I am also realistic enough to know that a $300 bag may be a little more than I need. Rather spend that extra $240 on powder, primers and bullets.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I appologize to the OP but I've been watching this thread and am torn between the Tac Ops bag and the Phantom. I want to be able to put 100 rds of ammo, knee/elbo pads, ear pro, LRF, etc. in this bag and have everything in one pack. Would the Tac Ops be strong enough to hold the ammo and enough storage for the pads, etc?

Thank you.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I have one of the Midway bags and very pleased with it. It doesn't see hard use but it works very well for a range/rifle bag combo. I actually removed the foam from inside of my Pelican and stick it in there. This way my rifle is protected on the way to the range in the bed of my truck, then when I get to the range I remove the bag and tote it in.

Condor Bag Review.

However if you have the cash, get the Eagle.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I used to love the Eagle bags but now that they are possibly made off shore? I started looking other places. I found the TacOps bag and got one.

Wow the Tac Ops bag blows the Eagle away. Only thing the TacOps does not have is someone to carry it for you.

Now of this is for real world use, the bags are heavy and there are better ways to protect weapon.

1. Padded scope and muzzle cover with the our Trigger Defender ( available through Triad)
2. Tab Rifle cover

Either of the two mentioned will do you well and not kill you infield because of weight.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I just picked up an Eberlestock Drag Bag. If you are looking for a true drag bag may not be the best choice as it is a three panel fold over design with an area to slide the butt of the rifle into, so real quick access is not there, but it is super well protected. It has really nice internal tie downs including wide vinyl covers that protect the rifle from rubbing from the clips on the internal straps. one complaint was the faux swead fabric on the inside that it catches grass and debris. looks like they got rid of it on the newer models. the outside has 4 nice storage compartments that are mole attached so they can be removed or exchanged for differents styles or sizes. the other thing i like is it is not overlly "puffy" some that i have seen are really wide this has a nice slim profile, fits my TRG 42 with a 27" barrel and fits inside my storm i3300 case.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

Artis G110 Sharpshooter Drag Bag is my choice for quality at a reasonable price. Made in the UK the Artkis G110 is OEM to the British Army for it's AIAW's.

Although Artkis USA has a website:

Artkis USA

The drag bags and other stuff can be bought through their E-Bay Store.

G110 Drag Bag in Woodland DPM Camo

Desert DPM

Inside length is 49.5", and fits my 26" barreled, HTG stocked Rem SA 700 with tons of room to spare. The bag comes with 10 tie down straps, that can be placed anywhere inside the bag, to really cinch that rifle down.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I have a Blackhawk and an Eagle. Both are really good bags and have been holding up well.

Some other guys here have the Eagle stalker mat thingy (The one that folds up and have para cord on one side) and those are nice too!

But like Lonewolf showed with the cheaper bag. If you are going to be DRAGGING it, spend the money on a good one, if it's a range bag, get the cheaper one.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I have Eagle voodoo and midway drag bags. If it is only going to be used to transport your rifle i would say midway. The voodoo has more padding like the eagle. It also has alot of molle attachments so you can take alot of atachable gear. But the one i like the most is the Eagle. It has every thing that i needed.
I purchased the padded scope protector+crown cover to also aid in protecting the glass. Now it is GTG.
All three good choices but it just depends on your needs.

<span style="font-style: italic">ashland</span>,

Your shooting location(s) and the type of shooting you focus on will largely determine what type of bag will work best for you. I don't have a Phantom, but I do have a Gunslinger II in addition to a SHORT Tac Ops Drag Bag to carry my rifle and gear in. For general range use I use the TO DB because it is faster to load and unload all my gear because of the way it is set-up. Moving to a different firing point is easy because I can throw everything in the bag pretty quick if I have to move.

The Tac Ops Drag Bag is more than strong enough to carry what you've listed. Below is a list of the stuff I carry in my Tac Ops Drag Bag, which makes a great range bag as well. I never forget anything because everything fits inside the bag. It also includes a Stow-Away Shooting Mat, has a Stow-Away Shoulder Straps, fully padded suppressor pocket, fully padded muzzle protector (internal), and tie-down web straps inside. It even has an internal pocket and slits to carry and route a hydration bladder. It is the best thought-out, most functional drag bag around and has a lifetime warranty.

Heres' a link to <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">rem_.308</span></span>'s <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">"TacOps Drag Bag 5th Gen Pic Heavy"</span></span> thread. It has some great photos and a good description.

On the other hand, if I need to hike a substantial distance and/or traverse steep terain to the shooting position(s) the the GSII does carry a bit more comfortably. The GSII's waistbelt also helps keep the pack from shifting around. However, because of the way the GSII is set up, stowing some of my gear away (such as the tripod and spotting scope) takes longer because they need to be packed just so and strapped-in so everything fits in the pack and doesn't shift around. The rifle has to sit just right or the balance can shift. The Eberlestock also carries a lifetime warranty.

So, each type of bag has it's own advantages and disadvantages over the other, and only you can figure-out which one works best for you. Or, you could do like I do and have both so you can use the bag or pack that fits the situation at hand. Just food for thought.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

It depends what you are using it for. If its just going to range, any half ass bag will do in my opinion. If thas what you are using it for, a Pelican or other quality hard case may be better, especially if getting bounced around in a vehicle. I had a Eagle drag bag for a work bag and it was top notch quality but it lacked a bit for getting all my kit in there. We went to an Eberlestock Phantom and although its configured a bit different with the ability to use the scabbard and bag or remove it and use it as a pack, the quality was not near the quality as the Eagle. Anything thats plastic will break, especially in cold weather. I live in northern Canada where cold affects everything, especially fastex buckles. Also my partners carrying strap on top of the phantom ripped off and now its useless. As for using the drag bag for actually dragging your rifle,in 6 years I have yet to actually drag my rifle in the bag on a stalk whether it be urban or rural.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

Keith, you freakin nailed it. Thank you for going to the trouble of listing all of that information. I don't hike but I would like to put all that gear in one bag and protect my rifle at the same time. It will be in the truck with me so not much bouncing around. Also I've taken classes at Rifles Only and the Tac Ops bag seems like it would be more practical than the Phantom. I like the fact that it has shoulder straps and faster access when moving from one stage to the next.

One last thing, I've been trying to find the Tac Ops bag but when I get to their site I can't open the drag bag portion. Can someone post a link?

Thanks again for the info.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

Eagle Industries ! best CS in the business. They repaired twice and free of charge my drag bag in 12 years. Each time back to almost new.

check natchezss.com ,they had some great deals on Eagle DB.

No problem, <span style="font-style: italic">ashland</span>. Mike knows his web site needs work - I told him a long time ago, but his focus is and always has been building rifles and suppressors. Mike Rescigno has been building Tac Ops rifles for about 18 years, and personally - I'd prefer to have him maintain that focus than direct improvements to his web site. Since most of Tac Ops business is agency and military-related the Tac Ops web site has always been on the back burner.

As <span style="font-style: italic">shibby</span> said, the best way to do business with Mike is telephonically. You can call Mike at (310) 275-8797, and <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">the best time to call is after 8:00 PM PST.</span></span>

That's 10PM in MS. He is safe calling at 8:30 Central. 8:00 Pacific is 10PM Central. Then you are talking until 10PM. At 8:30 Central, you will probably catch Mike on the way to eat and he will have to hide the fact that he is talking business from his wife, but you should be able to get a hold of him then.

Just don't tell him Keith sent you... he will charge you an extra 10% :-0

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

Damn, that's past my bedtime. Will have to stay up late one night.

One other question for you all. I'm gonna put an AI folder in the case. Would there be room to put it in the case folded?

Will you really be dragging it? I am pretty new here and to non-military shooting. I find it interesting how terms used in the military morph into something else on the outside. Everyone is selling a "drag bag" these days. I bought a Eagle recently. In the Army we made our drag bags. Started with a padded rifle case and sewed and shoe-gooed layer upon layer of tent canvas for wear resistance while we were actually dragging them. On the reverse side was a single layer of canvas with a piece of hammock netting attached for adding camoflage. These drag bags were a piece of kit that went to the field, not to the range. We carried our M24's to the range in a soft side rifle case that looked similar to the "drag bag" I just bought from Eagle.

BTW, I'm not that thrilled with the Eagle bag. I don't like that you cannot open it fully. It's a little tough to stuff a scoped rifle with a bipod down into the case.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I have a Winchester bag works good for me has plenty of pockets and on board storage. Probably not the greatest bags you can own got them from Cheaper then garbage on sale but then agagin I ain't no high speed operator and if I was sure won't advertize it LOL.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

Tac Ops all the way. I have a od green large bag and can say the quality of construction is great. I have used a Blackhawk bag in the past but the Tac Ops is a better design and better built in my opinion. I need to give Mike a call and see if he can do an extra large bag to carry my .338LM in. I can make it fit in my current bag but just barely. I can't take advantage of the muzzle pocket. The only bad thing I can think of about the Tac Ops bag is that it gets very heavy by the time I get done packing all my crap in it. There is just so much room and the lay out is great.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

I'm slumming it with my Midway drag bag, but for the 60$ I spent on it I'm very pleased. I keep it loaded to the seams and the only problem I've had was fixed by replacing the crappy zipper ties with 550 cord. I have however been looking covetously at the Eagle HSRC at Natchez for 150$

I bought one of Midway's bags at Christmas. I've been very happy with it, but have not subjected it to any real abuse, just range trips in my truck.

Re: Drag Bags- Your opinion please

dont really undrstand the whole drag bag concept. when i go a shooting longrange i take me trusty biathlon slung backpack backpack do dora the explora proud ruck rifle in with which ive eliminated the need for a ruck frame because the rifle stock is the ruck frame and i can bungee on all me kit.but back to the original posters question...im actually a bit confused because isnt the point of drag to hide yer bag?
