What action
What barrel
What stock
What trigger
What scope mount
What Gunsmith
Would you choose to build your Dream Rifle in 6.5 Creedmore ??????
I left out Optics because that's a very personal subject depending on $$$$$
I intend to splurge on everything non-optic for the present and go crazy afterwards on glass !

I'm thinking Bartlein barrel
Stiller action
Jewell Trigger
Applied Weapons Tech . Stock
SPHUR scope mount
And have no Idea about Gunsmith other than my local guy at Score High ( Charley Robertson ) .
Please , what are your thoughts ?
This rifle will pull double duty as a competition /hunting rifle .

My dream rifle would be a GA Precision. Krieger for Templer action, Bartlein barrel, Jewel or Timney trigger, detachable bottom metal by badger ordinance, or manners chassis system.
Fully adjustable manners stock. A surefire break and suppressor. And a Schmidt and Bender scope.

I have put a lot of thought into this:

- Big Horn or Shilen long action
- Stiller bottom metal
- Shilen (I think... this is subject to change) 7mm "ratchet-rifled" barrel; 26" finished length, chambered to 7mm SAUM (melonited & straightjacketed)
- TBAC 338BA brake & can
- Jewell trigger
- JAE stock (Hey, we're dreaming, right? In my dream, JAE can deliver a stock within 6 months of receiving the order...)
- LRA bipod
- SPUHR 20 MOA mount
- Optics are very much up in the air... Razor HD 2, BEAST, USO, etc...
- At this time, I'm leaning towards Long Rifles, Inc. for the 'smithing

It seems to me that while it would be on the heavy side of things for a hunting rifle, it would be light enough to be usable in that application (as long as I'm not toting it TOO far...) and would be great on the bench as well. The 7mm SAUM cartridge (my goal would be Berger 180s at 3000-ish FPS) has big enough stones to drop anything I'd want to shoot at any range that I'd want to shoot it.

Scope Mount: I really like the European mounts, or claw mounts. They seem very solid (and look nice...). American Rifle Company have very well designed/made rings and mounts.

I already have something very similar to the above from Josh, it's a .25MOA rifle (when he shoots it, not so much when I shoot it... but that's me, not the rifle) but in 6.5CR. Your main area of compromise is going to be weight in regards to hunting and this may mean you need to go with a lighter action and/or different barrel taper.

That being said -- At this point with the new AI's released...I'd get an AI AT -- Currently saving my pennies for an MC but, definitely can't go wrong with one of them.

It's hard to pull double duty for a hunting/competition rifle if you want to stay lightweight enough to have a comfortable hunt and still compete against the boys with competition dedicated rifles. I wanted something similar and reworked my GAP Hospitaller .308 to have an 18" barrel and a lighter manner's carbon fiber filled stock. Saved about 4 lbs by doing it but lost some of the long range accuracy I was getting out of my 2750 fps Hospitaller barrel. Only getting 2600 now. But I can at least walk through the woods with it and take some standing shots without having to steady a 16 lb beast that was meant to be shot prone. I call it my hunting/mid range gun (600 yards), because I would never build the set-up as-is to be a competition gun or something to go out to 1000.

I'd lean your build toward what you expect to use it more for, hunting or competition. Later down the road when you decide to buy another gun, you can make it a dedicated hunting/competition gun and dedicate this build for the other purpose.

My dream gun is the Barrett MRAD with the .338 and .308 conversions. For now I'm perfectly content with my GAP .308, Surgeon action, Manners MCS-T, Bartlein 18" barrel, and can't wait to get my March 3-24x52mm scope for it.

Since my focus is more on the hunting side, I would say a Gunwerks Helios in 6.5 package with G7 scope and BR2 LRF. All tweaked/tuned with the custom ammo.

If someone could make an action with the quick lock barrel change system like the new AX and AT that would work just as well in one of the new carbon Manners and be able to order top quality barrels that were already threaded and cerakoted ready for a quick change in light and heavy contours and different lengths. That would be the dream rifle. You could have arguably the most robust action out there in a lighter weight stock and and be able to order any barrel length or contour you wanted that was super easy to change.

I'm working on my dream rifle now. It's up and running now but with some temporary components. It will be a switch barrel, it has a .284 barrel now and will eventually have 6mm SLR and .308 barrels.

but seriously, mimicking BK ghandi's post earlier, i don't think i'd be able to come up with a dream rifle that can pull both hunting and competition, what i'd want for competition would be too heavy and cumbersome for hunting....also depends on the game intended on hunting for the caliber choice.

it'd be nice to have an easily interchangeable caliber / barrel like an MRAD system, with a lighter weight shorter sporter barrel selection in .223, .243, .260, .308, .3006, 300 win or .338 along with matching heavy barrels, to adjust from varmints to moose and paper at distance.

not saying the MRAD is my particular dream rifle, but i don't think i can come up with one for the crosstraining of competition and hunting that will work exceptionally well in both for my taste.

though still a bit on the heavy side, i've always fancied a scoped M14 nat. match...

I agree , trying to pull double duty from any one rifle is tough , lots of trade-offs . I kind of did that with my Sako AV in 300WM and I ended up with a 15 pound Elk and Deer Killer ! , custom laminated stock and a heavy profile Douglas Premium Barrel that is a tack driver . It's never been a problem lugging it around but the older I get I'm sure it will be . I guess maybe after reading all the opinions I'm going to have to give it some more thought or just stick with the 300 and start saving for the new AI !!

Used my dream rifle for a year now and couldn't be happier.
Rem action 308, med palma Bartlein 1/13" 20". Steel third eye tac rail. E-Tac ultra light carbon stock special build for myself, complete stock 828 grams. Rifle including 5 shot AICS mag without scope 7.7lbs. With 7Oz. suppressor and Kahles 624i around 10lbs.

Might choose a different paint scheme, and would probably want a Manners T4 or MCM A5 instead of the T5, but having a CRF Dakota Scimitar receiver complete with DBM would be awesome.
