If you're rooted but <span style="font-weight: bold">not</span> using Bugless Beast, <span style="text-decoration: underline">do not</span> try this fix! I made this mistake a few months ago. It won't work, and you'll lose a lot of the stuff you've done while rooted. That's why it's a good idea to always create a backup before you try anything new. I'm trying this solution: <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: tucker301</div><div class="ubbcode-body">If you want to get rid of the annoying reminder, get fully up to speed on the updates, and keep root, overclocking, etc., you'll need to follow the directions on this link for applying the update manually.

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/metickone/104030-rooted-stock-odexed-deodexed-frg83d.html</div></div> and I'll report back after I've messed with it for a bit. <span style="color: #FF0000">Edit:</span> So far it's running smoothly with no hiccups. It looks like it may have gotten rid of the OTA update message. This has also allowed me to download the newest version of Market, which is pretty slick. No complaints on this ROM so far.

Thanks for the info as always, Tucker!

Re: Droid Phones Thread

I was running a first gen Droid until yesterday. I went out with the wife because she needed a new phone and we both ended up upgrading.

She came home with a Droid 2 R2D2 Limited Edition (her choice - awesome) and I brought back a Droid X. The DX was rooted and had a custom ROM on it in about 2hrs. lol. I love these phones.

Personally I couldn't stand Swype so I would have to disagree with that statement.

Because you had to have tried the stock keyboard and I feel it's better.

I'm running Apex 1.3.1 right now. It's fast and good on battery life. Couldn't be happier.

Re: Droid Phones Thread

I just received a update for the droid Shooter Program.
I tried to pull up Seans website but it seems down. I was going to look to see what the update included or changed.

At first glance, the +/- on the hud solutions screens have been changed to a U or D for elevation & L or R for windage. I like this better....

Anybody got the skinny on the rest or a link to Sean/shooter thats working?

Re: Droid Phones Thread

any updates on new phones coming out. specificall for sprint carrier. im due for an upgrade and my abused hero will cost more to fix than replace. looking at evo now but the evo 3d is supposedly gonna hit stores soon. comes with faster processor and larger internal memory. any news on the date it will hit stores?

Re: Droid Phones Thread

Just got an HTC G2. Service is (as it has been) through T-Mobile. I was back and forth and back and forth and then just decided to get the next version of the one that my wife has. Reading through here I almost feel some remorse for not having gotten something different. Tethering is $15 a month, but it seems unreasonable since I'm paying a plan that gives the both of us unlimited data as it is.

Swype has reopened the beta program for new users.

Re: Droid Phones Thread

Rugged Android phone from...Verizon?
It's called the Casio Commando, an Android offering and the latest in the GzOne lineup. I had a second generation GzOne phone and it was very rugged. Here is a link to a list of new offerings from Verizon we should see soon:
http://androidstatus.com/tag/casio-commando/

Pics about halfway down this page:
http://androidjet.com/android/casio-commando/
"The Commando is a rugged phone that is water resistant and designed for outdoor activities. Casio packed eight useful tools into this phone including an earth compass, walking counter, adventure training, thermometer, tides, sun/moon, and star gazer. Specs are unknown at this point, but it is rumored to have an 800 MHz processor."

Here is an interesting thread with screenshots and other info from the manual:
Manual

In this thread they discuss what should be very-good battery life:
Phonearena
"Battery-life was deemed to be one of the best in class as far as androids are concerned these days and the PCD rep stated that he had not charged the device since the day prior and it still had 75% battery with moderate to heavy demoing usage throughout the day, impressive."

I don't like the swipe, But i do like the talk to text button.

Re: Droid Phones Thread

Vlingo is the best talk to text app I've seen. Plus it does so much more.

Re: Droid Phones Thread

The only thing I hate about Vlingo is that it doesn't work without an internet connection. Therefore, if you don't have a signal you don't have a working app. Otherwise, it's awesome. Also, thanks for the heads up on the Swype Beta. I'd never used it before the other day, but I love it now!

I am now up to my fourth iPhone digitizer and LCD now. Not my own, I have been fixing them for Friends. 2 of them for the same guy. Not to bad to do but it has some REAL small screws I mean smaller than the head of a pin, small.

Re: Droid Phones Thread

You will need the little suction cup. It really is the only way to get the glass out of the frame of the phone. The screws are really small so a magnifying glass or something like that helps a lot. The connectors look real small and fragile but they are not fragile and you need to use more force than you think you would need to "snap" the connectors back on. I like to have a small magnet to "hold on to" the little screws and pieces so they don't roll off the table or get lost.

Re: Droid Phones Thread

You must have loads of patience....if the phones you repaired are anything like the Motorola A855 I just replaced the screen on.

It took me a few hours.....some of the screws are almost impossible to get at. One problem....the ear speaker is a little quiet after the reapir. Everything else works as good or better than before. The screen is brillaint...better than I remember.

Touch response is certainly better than when the phone was new. Am thinking there was something wrong with the original screen. It worked, but was a bit sluggish.

While I was in there I cleaned everything and the power button works better than it has in a long time.

Would I do it again to this model? Not sure...it was a bitch.

Thanks for the suggestions!
