after 300rds, I decided to do a little more than wet/dry patches. I shoved a dry dewey phosphor bronze brush through the barrel and a nasty screech resulted. I had run a few wet then dry patches through already. I won't get a chance to shoot again until wednesday to find out for myself. Any chance of damaging a TRG barrel? Running dry was stupid. Cleaning wasn't even needed. Just bored, I guess.

A bronze brush isn't going to hurt a steel barrel. There's nothing wrong with using a metal brush either. I've got an 80yr old 1903 Springfield that shoots minute of angle and I'll guarantee it's been cleaned with bronze brushes and steel cleaning rods all it's life.

Cleaned just for the hell of it. Only been using Hoppes BR9 and, while after several soaks and wet/dry patches coming out completely clean, I knew more shit was in there. 1st wet patch after brush was completely black. A 3.25" 5-shot group at 600 yards wasn't good enough and I had to blame something else but my shooting. kidding. I honestly didn't think a bronze brush was going to hurt anything but, after that nasty screech (and too much octoberfest), I just needed to hear it from someone else.

So, was the brush clean?
Many times, the crap that comes out after running a brush through the bore was some of the crap that was on the brush before it went in.

Regardless of whether it hurts it of not, never run a brush dry!
Most of the damage concerns of any brush or rod combination is damage to the crown, if allowed to exit and touch/drag in the same spot over and over.
If it makes you feel any better, I made the same mistake with my BR rifle and it went on to produce groups of 1.0625 at 600 and 3.4375 at 1000...I'm sure your rifle is fine.

What rod are you using?
What bore guide?
VERY unlikely you heard anything other than the brush fitting the barrel. OTOH, if you don't have a decent rod and guide you might be scrubbing the bore a bit which is silly.
No harm comes from correct cleaning.
