You guys ever run across one of these bolt action bullpup sniper rifles from Germany called the DSR-1? I remember back in 2002 this company AMP was importing them, and I was really thinking of getting one, but it just didn't happen. Instead, I ended up getting a Barrett and a WA2000, so I couldn't justify shelling out another 8k on a mysterious gun with no record. The thing does look sick though.

umm did you look in the rifles section from today through the last few days? I KNOW there are at least two threads in there and I believe one in the for sale section. BTW, Im raising the BS flag on the barrett and the WA2000 yeah whatever, until we see pics of the hardware and proof your not still in grade school. What the heck is up with all the DSR-1 post lately?

That's ironic that you said you ended up getting the WA2000. I was sitting the other day with El Chupacabra and he was saying he recently made reached the same conclusion in sniper rifle purchases. He was close to getting the PSG-1, but went with the WA2000 as it's a bullpup and therefore better for door breaching. Plus he read a killer review on it online and knew it was the way to go.

Personally I said he should go with a modded out Red Ryder, but alas, he never listens...

Sorry, I didn't see the post. As far as your bullshiiaat call, I can help you with pics on the Barrett when I get back to my house this weekend. The WA2000, I bot in 2002 from Earl Chandler and sold it back to him in 2006. I made a stupid choice and bot the one in .308, bc it was a bit cheaper. Ended up being penny wise and dollar foolish. I shot the thing once, then it just sat in a pelican case collecting dust. I figured that at the time, it wasn't a bad idea to raise some cash while I was in med school, especially since I wasn't gonna fire the thing. I did take some pics and posted the rifle for sale on gunbroker in the summer of 2006, but nobody ponied up enough. Maybe someone on this forum remembers that event, bc the auction got like over 5000 views, and I got barraged with a ton of emails from annoying window shoppers. If you still don't believe me, email Earl at carlwalther.com. If he won't release my name, let me know and I will ask him to do so.

Seriously bro, quite a bold maneuver to question someone's integrity on a whim. I can understand the cynicism about the Walther, but why are you in disbelief that I own a Barrett? There are many rifles on this site much more prestigious than a Barrett. And your suspicion of me being in grade school? You want an upload of my driver's license too? I feel like I am getting carded at a movie theater or something. I am 34, and graduating with an MD in 4 months. Wish me luck for the residency match in anesthesia.

At the time I got it, I had these delusions of grandeur that I was gonna own every sought rifle out there. I was stalking the PSG also, but never got aggressive enough to grab one. I think I had a shot at maybe 10k, but it just wasn't worth it to me. I got the Walther because I was obsessed with the rifle and its rarity. In actuality, the rifle really is cumbersome. It feels like a big brick, is heavy and just feels a bit weird when you shoulder it. And forget about parts and stuff. I only had 1 magazine, and at the time, there were no more available, but I think the market value at the time was over 300 a piece. It really was a cool rifle, and it shot fairly well during the 1 time I took it to the range. It just wasn't practical, but then again, either is my M82, but I am just holding on to that one just to piss off carolyn mccarthy.

Bot is an abbreviation commonly used, especially from my previous career on the trading desk and the NYMEX. If you paid attention, I am in the process of application with ERAS, so I have no idea in hell where I will match. I graduate in 4 mos from SGU, I didn't get an MD in 4 mos, it takes 4 years. Let me know how that shoe tastes.

Damn, should have jumped on it at 8k. Friend talked me out of it bc he was skeptic about the manufacturer. I wonder if it lived up to the claims of sub .5 MOA.

unless you're collecting, and just have to have the DSR-1 look into the DTA SRS rifle. Seems to be just as accurate though not as exotic.

Tis very nice, but it doesn't really do that much for me in comparison to the DSR. Don't get me wrong though, I would take that rifle in a second. I just wouldn't pursue it too hard. That is, unless I shot a retarded group with the thing in a test fire.

Not quite as pretty but the DSR to me def. isn't $14k more handsome. I just think its every bit the rifle the DSR is just hella cheaper. 4k for that rifle? That is not bad at all. I was expecting 6-7. Yeah, right now, I am trying to chill out with the guns. I wouldn't even think of dropping 18k on the DSR. I have accepted the fact that I missed the boat 7 yrs ago. Oh well.

Last night when I was reading this thread, I Googled WA2000 and there is a Wiki link that states that only 34 WA2000s were imported into the US in the three different calibers (300WM, 308Win, 7.5x51 Swiss I think) they were made in and 11 of those 34 were/are owned by the head guy of Walther USA.

It states that the going rate for these rifles, when up for sale is between $75,000 and $80,000, so a nice chunk of change.

I don't doubt you owned one and I'd be curious to know what you paid for your .308 WA2000 in 2002 (they stopped production in '88 evidently) and what you sold it back for (in roughly the same condition you bought her in) just to see if the Wiki article is in the 'ballpark'.

You've worked on Wall Street, so turning a buck in common for you and you probably don't mind explaining it in 'business terms'.

In 2002, they still had to be spendy. Was yours new, or used? If it was used, what was the round count, if you know?

I think knowing the going rate for buying and selling one of these rare guns helps to educate people. Just like SR90(?) letting us know what he'd let his DSR-1 go for.

What got me was you are getting your MD which to me means you dont have it quite yet. The WA was running over 30k several (4-5) years ago. I admit spending some of my PharmD student loans on my AIAW since the interest rate was so low, but what I paid was barely a fraction of the cost of a DSR-1 much less a WA2000. Of course you may not have any loans and come from wealth. So I apologize for being envious.

When Paris and I get back together, maybe she will buy me a WA2000. Until then Ill just look at your pics.

Congrats on the MD BTW. We need more good Anesthesiologists. A family friend of mine is expected to pass tomorrow due to an ADR in routine rotator cuff surgery in Columbus Regional. He was a local pharmacist with 14 years in Winn Dixie. His MD miscalculated his dose and he BP plummeted so fast that his brain started swelling due to O2 deprivation. With it being drug induced, his chances were less that if it had been blunt force trauma I was told. His family said their final farewells today. I am told they are seeking damages for this and i cannot imagine what extent they will be. Anesthesiology demands huge responsibility. sorry for the long story, but when i saw the area you chose, I felt I had to say it.

Wow, I am sorry to hear about that. That sucks that something like this happened with some stupid routine surgery like an ortho case. How old was the guy? He OD him with propofol or sevoflurane or something? We usually only have the BP issues with elderly people with severe CV issues, and it is quite a stressful time to keep their BP up.

He is 53, but in great shape. This morning I hear his organs are starting to fail. At this point even is he pulled through, I fear the brain hs suffered so much damage he would never be the same again. To my knowledge his CVS was good to go.

I know he was started on propofol.

I'd say that 90% of induction is done with propofol, as long as their CVS is gtg. It can have a major CV depressive effect, and take the BP down more than desired. However, it is short acting, and there are a few other drugs that will do almost the same thing, such as the gas (-fluranes) and even fentanyl. I really wonder what went wrong, because from what you told me, it sounds like a real disaster.

Fentanyl is about 10x potency of morphine, but it is dispensed according to that ratio, so it is about the same thing as far as strength. We use it in the OR because it is really short acting. Usually for the knee cases, we sedate, but no intubation. We just dose the fentanyl and/or give a spinal injection of anesthetic if viable. I was awake for my own knee repair. If you went to sleep, you must have been super relaxed and tired. Really is a good feeling though.

I know some medicine but most emergency stuff so, I dunno. I seem to remember them telling me they would knock me out. Even with all the pain killers, the first thing I felt was a excruciating pain in my lower back from having my legs hanging off a table for an hour pulling on my lower back. Sometimes my back still hurts like a summummabeetch and I aint even thirty...

I hear today, that it was a matter of O2 being delivered or monitored? Someone even said O2 may have been turned off during the intubation? Im no surgeon, but from what I gather the O2 keeps the brain from swelling when the BP drops from the meds. Yea its a mess, but hes still holding on.

fentanyl is actually around 80x more potent then morphine from what they are teaching us. You dont even need to be touching the transdermals from people with chronic pain. Get this guys, sulfentanil is 7x fentanyl. If my math is right, 560x morphine with a 30 min duration.

The way it sounds, what must have happened is that they didn't amply pre-oxygenate the patient before tubing him. There is no way of delivering O2 during the intubation, bc the patient is paralyzed, and the airway is in the process of being accessed.
The brain swelling mechanism is a little more involved than that, involving CO2 also, but yes, the brain is swelling in response to low O2 and increased CO2 (or H+).
Sorry, 10x was a typo, I meant 100x. Sufentanil is the baddest stuff that I know of, and you are correct that it is between 5-10x as potent as fentanyl.
